RuneScape: Dragonwilds — Everything We Know
Jagex has announced RuneScape: Dragonwilds, and the gaming world is buzzing with excitement. We have a new adventure coming our way — but wait, this is not the RuneScape you’re familiar with. Imagine a completely new continent, long forgotten by time, where ancient dragons have awoken and the land itself pulses with wild magic. Ashenfall is no ordinary battleground; it’s a living, breathing world that will test your survival skills like never before.
Will you rise to the challenge, mastering powerful spells and ancient skills? Or will the untamed wilds and mighty dragons bring your journey to a fiery end? With mystery, danger, and high fantasy packed into every corner, this new RuneScape game promises a bold new chapter for the iconic franchise. Here’s everything we know about RuneScape: Dragonwilds story, gameplay, development, and what awaits on the forgotten continent of Ashenfall.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Story

The story of RuneScape: Dragonwilds takes place on Ashenfall. It’s a lost continent where dragons have finally woken up. Ashenfall is wild, broken, and packed with ancient magic. Players will have to gather, build, and craft just to stay alive. But surviving isn’t enough. To win, you’ll need to uncover old secrets hidden deep in the ruins. Only then can you challenge the Dragon Queen. You can go alone or team up with friends. Either way, you’ll have to locate the dragons, defeat them and carve a path straight to her.
Progress won’t be easy, as dragons are everywhere. You’ll need to level up, craft strong gear, and prepare for brutal fights. Potions, weapons, and skills will be your lifeline. You’ll have to learn how to fight the dragons, not just face them. Slay the Dragon Queen, and you’ll make history. Fail, and you’ll just be another lost soul. The dragons have the advantage, but everyone loves an underdog story.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Gameplay

In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, players will gather resources, build shelters, and craft gear to survive. You will have to level up skills like in classic RuneScape. But this time, you’ll also need to stay alive in a dangerous world filled with dragons. You can play solo or team up with up to three friends. Everything you do will help you prepare for battles against powerful creatures.
Magic plays a big role in the gameplay of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. You can use wild spells to change the world around you. You’ll be able to summon a ghostly axe to chop trees or snap your fingers to explode ore veins. Shield yourself with runic energy when things get tough. The land of Ashenfall is full of strange magic that you can use to survive.
The game will revolve around grinding skills, slaying dragons, and uncovering old secrets. You will follow the destruction left by the dragons and get ready for huge fights. Players can craft potions, make stronger gear, and level up before facing the Dragon Queen. Survival will not be easy, but you’ll need to find ways to grow stronger with each step.
Furthermore, we can expect a lot of building, crafting, fighting, and exploring. The first few regions will be open at launch. Players will also find dungeons to explore and big dragons like General Velgar to battle. New skills, spells, enemies, and places will be added over time as the game grows during RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ Early Access.
Development

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is being developed by Jagex, the studio behind the classic RuneScape games. They’ve put together a fresh team of industry veterans just for this project. The game is being built using Unreal Engine 5. From the start, the plan was to make a survival crafting game that feels like it belongs inside the RuneScape universe. The devs said, “RuneScape: Dragonwilds is an entirely new RuneScape experience set within the iconic world of Gielinor.” They want the game to be loved by both old RuneScape fans and new players.
The team is making new RuneScape with a player-first mindset. The game will launch in Early Access in Spring 2025. It will stay in Early Access “as long as it takes” to get things right. Jagex said, “We’re committed to making RuneScape: Dragonwilds a community-driven game that players want to come back to again and again.” They have already held closed alpha tests and used player feedback to shape the Early Access version. After launch, they plan to keep adding new skills, spells, enemies, quests, and events based on what players want. The roadmap will grow and change over time with help from the community.
