Video game developer and publisher Capcom has reported that its latest release, Resident Evil 4 Remake, has sold more than 3 million copies in just two days after its launch.

In a statement, the company described the achievement  as “off to a solid start.” The game’s impressive sales numbers represent an improvement over the initial performance of other recent titles in the series. Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 2 Remake took four days after release to sell over 3 million copies each. Additionally, Capcom announced that the Resident Evil series has sold over 135 million units since its debut in 1996.

Resident Evil 4 Remake has made an excellent start on Steam, setting a new record for concurrent players. According to Steamdb, the title recorded 168,191 concurrent players on its launch day alone. Resident Evil 4 Remake may soon become one of the best-selling titles in the franchise.

The original Resident Evil 4 launched in 2005. Capcom reworked the storyline and modernized the gameplay experience. The 2023 release uses Capcom’s RE ENGINE, a cutting-edge graphics technology, to create highly immersive visuals for players. Capcom says the game has received high scores on online review sites. The publisher attributes the 3 million sales to the Chainsaw Demo, which allowed players to experience the game’s opening.

“The title garnered praise and attention following the release of the Chainsaw Demo, in which players could enjoy the opening of the game, resulting in worldwide sales of the title surpassing 3 million units in the first two days after the game’s release,“ the statement read in part.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is now available for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
