PlayStation Exclusives Are Becoming Increasingly Common on PC in Light of Sony’s “Aggressive” Strategy

PlayStation continues to crunch the gap between its first-party exclusives—a library that includes the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, Final Fantasy Rebirth, and Marvel’s Spider-Man—and its PC ports, with the latter finally being in receipt of more than a handful of the powerhouse studio’s highest-selling IP. In a bid to strengthen this bond with online platforms like Steam, the creative waterfalls behind PlayStation are gradually knuckling in on that “aggressive” plan that came to fruition back in 2024. As a result of this newly launched partnership with alternate users, PC players can more or less expect to see a surge in first-party ports over the coming weeks, months, and years.
At the time of writing, both Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are due to arrive on PC on January 23, and January 30, respectively. And that’s not all; industry insiders have also claimed that IP including the likes of Gran Turismo 7 and Rise of the Ronin could also be in line to make the jump from their respective origin studio to Steam in the future.
Concerns Over Poaching
Amidst all of this camaraderie between the two major platforms, you’d half expect there to be some level of poaching going on, particularly when it comes to PC essentially sourcing new breadcrumbs to convince users to make the switch. Apparently, though, the folks over at PlayStation aren’t really seeing this as a threat, with one official claiming that it isn’t a “major risk” to their plans to onboard and maintain as many fresh players as possible.
“In terms of losing users to PCs, we have neither confirmed that any such trend is underway, nor do we see it as a major risk, so far,” an official told its investors back in 2024.
Whatever lies in store for PlayStation in the near term is unclear, though, the fact still remains: PC users are going to witness this bond between the two gaming giants flourish sooner than later, for better or worse.
