Nintendo Announces Xenoblade Chronicles X Remaster for the Switch

Nintendo has officially announced the remaster of its Wii U classic, Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Nintendo Switch. The game will launch as Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. The remaster will revive one of the last standout titles of the long-forgotten Wii U console.
According to the announcement, the Switch version will feature enhanced visuals and new story elements. The announcement did reveal details about the changes. However, a synopsis for the Definitive Edition states that the game will place players “at the center of the action in a standalone sci-fi story.” The remaster will expand on the original’s narrative, teasing new mysteries and characters, including a “mysterious hooded figure” introduced in the new content.
“There is even more to discover in this definitive version of the game. Just who is the mysterious hooded figure on the beach? You’ll have to stay tuned to learn more…” the announcement hinted.

Xenoblade Chronicles X initially launched in 2015, developed by Monolith Soft as the second installment in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. The game stood out in the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise as the game diverged from the main series storyline. The Xenoblade Chronicles series has since continued to grow, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 launching in 2017 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 following in 2022.
The remaster is part of Nintendo’s ongoing effort to breathe new life into its library of Wii U titles, many of which struggled to find an audience during the console’s lifetime. Previous Wii U games have successfully transitioned to the Switch, with enhanced graphics and gameplay tweaks. The titles include popular titles such as Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Super Mario 3D World.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will release on March 30, 2025, and will be available for $59.99.
