Capcom and TiMi Studios recently announced Monster Hunter Outlanders. Interestingly, the game comes as Capcom works on the next main addition to the series: Monster Hunter Wilds. However, that has not eclipsed this new title, which promises an exciting range of features. While Outlanders sounds like yet another addition to the MonHun mobile-based series, it will be one of the most ambitious mobile games yet. Here is a comprehensive preview of everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Outlanders. 

What is Monster Hunter Outlanders?

Monster Hunter Outlanders is an upcoming addition to the MonHun mobile-based games. It has been touted as the most ambitious of all other mobile-based MonHun games. Notably, it is the first fully open-world Monster Hunter game designed exclusively for mobile. In addition, it is categorized as an open-world survival game, a different genre compared to other MonHun mobile games. On the other hand, its overall gameplay and features are very similar to mainline Monster Hunter games. In fact, Outlanders looks like a mobile adaptation of the iconic Monster Hunter: World. 

Story

The exact story behind Monster Hunter Outlanders is still unclear. You will play as an outlander on an adventure that mostly involves hunting monsters. Based on other MonHun games, you can expect an intriguing story that unfolds as you go. 

Gameplay

The Monster Hunter Outlanders gameplay promises to be rich, versatile, and fun. It will overall combine open-world survival elements with classic Monster Hunter elements, which entail action, exploration, and crafting. 

Outlanders will offer a unique exploration experience compared to all other MonHun games. The first Monster Hunter games featured worlds broken up into zones. In contrast, the most recent games feature interconnected environments. Monster Hunter Outlanders is an upgrade, as it features a fully open world that you can explore however you want. 

The open world is vast and features diverse environments, including deserts, swamps, forests, and more. Players can paraglide to cover long distances over short times and take in the world’s beauty in the process. You can also climb up walls and swim through rivers. Notably, the game has outstanding graphics and sharp visuals despite being a mobile game. 

You can engage in various activities across the open world. The game’s survival elements involve building bases and crafting gear. There is plenty of real estate for you to settle down and lots of resources to work with. However, the most exciting aspect is hunting monsters, which involves epic action. 

Outlanders will feature a few familiar and many new monsters for you to hunt and fight. Some of the familiar monsters from previous MonHun games include Diablo, Rathian, Great Jagras, Odaragon, and Anjanath, among others. The new monsters showcased in the official trailer also look menacing. Interestingly, the monsters will sometimes mutate because of environmental radiation, giving them new abilities and creating new challenges for you to conquer. 

The game’s combat system is versatile and epic. You can use diverse weapons to fight the monsters. Your arsenal includes various impressive weapons from previous MonHun games, such as dual blades, bow guns, and longswords. Moreover, the game will also introduce new weapons, as showcased in the official trailer. 

Besides weapons, you can work with your new buddies in combat. The game introduces new buddies besides the classic furry felines. These new buddies provide combat support during battle, helping you take monsters down. Each buddy has unique skills that add depth to the combat system, giving you more combinations to work with.  Notably, you must also contend with certain environmental challenges in addition to fighting monsters. Fortunately, the buddies also have skills that help with exploration. 

The game features two modes: single-player mode and co-op mode. The single-player mode lets you dive into the main storyline alone, hunting monsters and unraveling the story as you go. You can also explore the open world independently at your own pace without following set objectives. Alternatively, you can team up with up to three other players in the 4-player co-op mode. You can tackle quests together or form adventure teams to explore the open world together. 

Notably, Monster Hunter Outlanders will be a free-to-play mobile game. Like most free-to-play games, it will feature microtransactions and seasonal events. However, it is not a cash-grab, considering the intense effort that has gone into the game’s development. 

Development

Monster Hunter Outlanders is developed by Capcom and TiMi Studios. Notably, TiMi Studios is the developer behind several iconic mobile games, including Call of Duty Mobile, Pokemon Unite, and Age of Empires Mobile. The developer is thus expected to apply its expertise in mobile games to make Monster Hunter Outlanders one of the most ambitious MonHun mobile games. 

Dong Huang, the studio’s producer, said the following during the game’s announcement: “It’s time for mobile players to fully enjoy what makes Monster Hunter one of the most beloved franchises in gaming. Monster Hunter Outlanders not only offers players an authentic hunting experience, but it does it in a massive open world featuring the community and social systems players are looking for today.”

The official trailer for Monster Hunter Outlanders features gameplay scenes showcasing the game’s best features. You can see the outlanders who you will be playing as the new buddies who will accompany you on your adventure, the monsters you will be hunting, and more. 

The game’s open world looks beautiful in the official trailer. The scenes depict various environments, including lush forests, wetlands, and deserts. Notably, there appear to be monsters in every biome, setting the stage for relentless action. Various scenes depict diverse monsters, including the classic Diablo and Rathian and various new monsters. One of the scenes also showcases the monsters evolving. Fights with the monsters look thrilling, and various scenes showcase diverse weapons and skills. 

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

An exact release date for Monster Hunter Outlanders is yet to be decided. Notably, the game will be exclusively available on the iOS and Android mobile platforms.
