Dragon Ball Project: Multi—Everything We Know

It seems Dragon Ball is ready to dive into the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre. The franchise is following in the footsteps of Pokemon, which launched Pokemon Unite, a MOBA, in 2021 to mostly positive acclaim. If you are a fan of the MOBA genre or simply adore Dragon Ball, then buckle up and read through everything we know about the upcoming game Dragon Ball Project: Multi.
What is Dragon Ball Project: Multi?

Dragon Ball Project: Multi is an upcoming multiplayer online battle arena game. It’s the first game in the Dragon Ball franchise to dive into the genre. As a result, plenty of anticipation is going around the upcoming game. Alongside positive reception, some gamers are skeptical about the game being a free-to-play service and, hence, possibly, a hefty gacha system and questionable microtransactions.
Story

As the game’s Steam store page phrases it, Dragon Ball Project: Multi will be Dragon Ball’s first-ever “team-oriented battle” game. It’ll bring together characters from the franchise, pitting them against one another in a battle arena. The store page doesn’t reveal any story snippets you can expect in the final game. All we know is that players will group into teams that fight and win together.
Gameplay

Check out the key gameplay elements you can expect in the final game below.
- Engaging 4v4 team battles: You’ll venture out into the Dragon Ball universe, making allies to fight beside you in battle. You’ll have objectives to guide you while also testing your combat skills.
- Hero-based combat: You’ll choose from a wide-ranging cast of characters who you’ll control in battle. They will be “heroes” who grow in strength the more you play. As you face different enemies and bosses, strength will come in handy to win battle rounds.
- Each hero will have a unique set of skills and abilities that categorize them into different roles. Some of them will include:
- Damage-dealing roles that, while simple, will prove aggressive and effective in battle
- Tank roles that will prolong your time in battle
- Technical roles that support your team or distract enemies
- Deep customization: You’ll have the freedom to customize your characters’ appearance, tweaking their skins, animations, and more. These will vary, with options for selecting how characters step into the battle and how they execute finisher moves.
Keep in mind that you’ll need a stable internet connection to play the game. It’ll be a multiplayer game that will require joining online matches against players worldwide. While you can match with anyone worldwide, the game will prioritize players whose internet connection is optimal for your region.
Development

Ganbarion is currently taking charge of the development of Dragon Ball Project: Multi. Bandai Namco Entertainment, on the other hand, will be helping to bring the final game to market. Ganbarion is most known for their work in the One Piece franchise. Bandai Namco Entertainment, on the other hand, has overwhelming experience publishing highly successful games, including Elden Ring, Tekken 8, Dark Souls III, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R, among many more.
Trailer
Check out the Dragon Ball Project: Multi regional beta test trailer now on YouTube. While only one minute long, it showcases the characters you can expect in the final game. Some of them are fan-favorite Goku, Future Trunks, Krillin, Android 18, Vegeta, Zamasu, Piccolo, and many more. The developing studio has yet to confirm the full roster of playable and non-playable characters.
Moreover, you can catch glimpses of some of the flashy attacks and finisher moves you’ll be pulling off. Transformations seem like they’ll be returning for yet another adrenaline-infused battle system. There’s also a hint about the possibility of collecting dragon balls to get ahead of the competition.
Lastly, the animations are vibrant and spicy, while the visuals, in general, look stunning. Sound effects and the music, too, seem like they’ll be plenty of fun to jam to. The decision to launch a MOBA Dragon Ball game isn’t entirely surprising. Pokemon Unite launched to relatively positive acclaim.
However, some gamers are still skeptical about whether the game will be worthwhile. By launching on mobile and being free-to-play, it could easily succumb to questionable microtransactions. Fingers crossed, though, the developing team comes through.
