Avatar photo

Capy Castaway has the most adorable trailer. It promises a cozy vibe, perfect for detoxing after a long day. Behind the wheel will be a mischievous capybara and a clever crow. They are lost somewhere in the wild and need your help to find a way home. If this sounds like your forte, then be sure to read through to the end of our Capy Castaway: Everything We Know article below.

What is Capy Castaway?

Capy Castaway

Capy Castaway is an upcoming narrative adventure game. It’ll deliver a whimsical adventure with an adorable aesthetic and warm energy. The main characters are a capybara pup and a clever crow in tow. Together, they will embark on a wild adventure, trying to find a way back home. The two cute animals need to work together, with the crow flying overhead to spot clues and the capybara sniffing and digging the ground for collectibles. You’ll explore a colorful world that is packed chock-full of tests, charm, and the budding of beautiful friendships every step of the way.

Story

capy

Capy Castaway’s story is rather simple. It’s a narrative adventure that builds on the curiosity of players, rewarding your exploration and search with both delight and consequence. Kicking off with a capybara pup and a particularly chatty crow, you’ll explore a vibrant world, trying to find a way back home. From what we can tell, you don’t have a linear path you must follow. You can choose to do random stuff like shaking a random tree or throwing away someone’s favorite toy.

However, keep in mind that every action you take will have a positive or negative impact. Still, the adventure is meant to be a completely casual and playful experience. As you can imagine, pups are playful creatures, and that personality will be translated amid your exploration. Plus, you’ll be in the company of a clever crow who doesn’t particularly mind enabling your mischievous pursuits.

You’ll be exploring a charming island, where the activities you engage in will draw from early childhood memories. No matter how basic the objects you find are, they will be like treasure. The same goes for the new areas you discover. Your protagonists will be the stars of the show. Steam says the story will be a “familiar fable.” However, the story arcs will go deeper to showcase how our choices can impact the characters and the world. Structured as a fable, Capy Castaway intends to craft some life lessons and beautiful friendships and add a spice of mystery to chase down.

Gameplay

capy

Capy Castaway is a casual game that shouldn’t stress you too much in accomplishing its goals. Rather, it seems to be a relaxing adventure created by an indie developing studio. At the forefront of your playthrough will be a capybara and a crow. They will work together, combining their unique skills to reach the desired goal. The capybara will be able to push heavy items, sniff out hidden treasure, and dig the ground for resources. The crow, on the other hand, can fly, whether across a short distance or to reach higher, inaccessible areas.

Furthermore, you can control the capybara and crow independently. Capy Castaway plans to feature both a single-player campaign and a split-screen co-op adventure. So, you can bring your friend along to control the capybara or the crow. It’ll be better to play the game using a controller, although you can use a mouse and keyboard as well.

Ultimately, success requires teamwork between the crow and capybara, whether when exploring the island, completing the challenges you encounter, or helping out the characters you run into. In the end, you’ll help the adorable duo find their way back home.

Development

Capy Castaway: Everything We Know

Publisher Big Blue Sky Games and developer Kitten Cup Studio are working in tandem to bring Capy Castaway to market sometime soon. The game inherits from the brilliant minds of Pekoe and Merchants of Rosewall as well as the creativity of the composer of A Short Hike. It’ll be the second game from Kitten Cup Studio, with Pekoe, their first game, not that much different. It was a cozy cat-filled tea-making simulator that garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Big Blue Sky Games, on the other hand, are also relatively new in the publishing sphere. Besides Capy Castaway, they will be developing and publishing Merchants of Rosewall, a shop-management simulator slated to launch in the first quarter of 2025. With two upcoming projects underway, let’s hope Kitten Cup Studio can get through the fine-tuning and final polish soon enough.

Trailer

Check out Capy Castaway’s teaser trailer, released at the Wholesome Snack 2024 digital showcase. Its music score stands out the most with incredibly charming tunes. Then comes the art style with its colorful and cute aesthetic. It seems the game won’t have voice acting. Instead, you’ll consume the narrative in chat boxes. But the writing already piques interest with lighthearted tones.

The crow seems to do all the talking, though, while the capy sweats it out, fetching and digging stuff. Still, the crow’s comments are helpful in telling you where you need to go next. Let’s hope the final game is just as cute and overall stress-relieving.
