Characters in Until Dawn Remake

The 2015 classic Until Dawn returned on October 4, 2024, optimized for PC and PS5. The game is rebuilt on Unreal Engine 5 complete with phenomenal visuals and a film-like cinematography. Fans are in for fresh and redefined gameplay mechanics with adrenaline-pumping quick-time events. The characters return from the original game so you won’t feel very distant from Until Dawn if you loved the cast of protagonists. Here’s a quick tour through all characters in Until Dawn Remake, ranked.

Matt

Matt

Matt lines up along with Jessica and Ashley for the characters whose lives rely heavily on the actions of others. He’s labeled the hardest character to keep alive for many reasons. For instance, Matt will still go to the Fire Tower with Emily even if you disagree with Emily’s idea. He’s a people-pleaser, and that could easily get him killed, especially where his girlfriend Emily is involved. The fact that multiple sections need you to save Matt makes him a challenging character in Until Dawn Remake

Jessica

Characters in Until Dawn Remake: Jessica

Jessica is one of the main protagonists in Until Dawn Remake, represented in the game by American actress Meghan Martin. She is the first character that tests your saving skills and the earliest character to possibly die in the game. She plays Mike’s girlfriend, and she mostly survives at the mercy of Mike and Matt. Her fate begins in Chapter 4 when she gets pulled away by a Wendigo that runs through the woods with her. She’s helpless, and only Mike can save her by quickly completing the quick-time events and getting to her on time. If Mike is successful, Jessica only reappears again in the gameplay in Chapter 10.

Chris

Chris

His full game name is Christopher Hartley, but he is generally shortened to Chris during playthroughs. Chris also goes by other nicknames, including one given by himself, the Jokemaster. He’s portrayed by Noah Fleiss, yet another American actor. Chris is a high school student and a tech nerd. He despises any location without internet access. But he’s not the boring tech guy in the group. Instead, he’s actually the group’s clown who has a passion for humor. His death in the game is tied to Ashley, who will only save him if he makes the brave choice for her in Chapter 6.

Ashley

Characters in Until Dawn Remake: Ashley

Ashley is the Caucasian teenage girl expressed in Galadriel Stineman’s voice and appearance. She’s a bit reserved compared to other female characters in the game. Ashley is a little inquisitive and intelligent and is able to gather clues in the game. Her reserved nature only exposes her to a few near-death scenarios in the final chapters of the game. Her only distraction is Chris, for whom she has a great secret crush. But should her curiosity lead her to open the door to investigate the voices in Chapter 9, it will be her death.

Josh

Josh

Although he’s among the eight main protagonists, Josh is never a playable character in Until Dawn Remake. He is quite disturbed by his sisters’ disappearance, but it gets even worse when a Wendigo drags him away into the mines. His fate hangs in the balance, and only Sam and Mike can save him. He’s the only character with a chance to be spared by Wendigo Hannah, his sister. But only if he can recognize Hannah and make her recognize him before she crushes his skull. Mike and Sam are, however, the only hope Josh can surely count on. If they find Hannah’s journal and read it, he is saved.

Emily

Characters in Until Dawn Remake

Emily appears in Until Dawn Remake as actress Nichole Sakura. She finds herself in a tricky and deadly situation when a Wendigo chases after her. She is independent and only has herself to count on, and she evades her death in Chapter 8. However, Matt will put himself in danger at any time to save her. Emily portrays her bravery on many occasions. She still goes to the Fire Tower despite Matt’s resistance. Matt got her back and will attempt to save her as the Tower colla[ses. The Wendigo even bites her and risks Mike shooting her. However, if Ashley points out the bite, Emily will be saved.

Mike

Mike

Mike, played by Brett Dalton, is a major characters in Until Dawn Remake. He’s a critical player who survives any encounter throughout the chapters. His only possible death is in Chapter 10, making him and Sam the invincibles. He’s the casanova of the characters who likes to hang around women. Perhaps that explains why he dumped Em and fell for Jessica’s charm. But he’s generally a ladies’ man, and they all seem to have had a crush on her. He plays a significant role in saving most of the characters, right from his encounter with Jessica and the Wendigo early in the game. Still, in Chapter 10, he comes up with the genius idea that will save or kill every last survivor.

Sam

Sam

You take on Sam’s character in Hayden Panettiere’s image. She’s the game’s heroine. Just like Mike, Sam is invincible and almost bound to be the last of anything. She could die before Mike towards the end, but she could have a chance to kill everybody if she flips the switch too early. Sam, however, goes to great lengths to save different characters, even risking it all for Josh. She doesn’t have many occasions to die, but her encounters in Chapter 10 are pretty adrenaline-pumping.

Wolf

Characters in Until Dawn Remake

The wolf is not playable or among the main Until Dawn Remake characters. The character is associated with Mike, who finds it in the asylum. He can choose to befriend it or fend it off, but it can save him at some point. The wolf could save Mike if the player ends up missing some of the quick-time events. The wolf takes Mike’s hits and dies. However, Mike also saves the wolf from Wendigo when he barricades the asylum’s entry to keep the wolf safe from the Wendigos.
