Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4: Everything We Know

For many gamers, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater sparks fond childhood memories. It’s a classic arcade skater series that ran from 1999 to 2007.  After a long hiatus, Activision decided to revive the series with 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake. It was a huge success, with the most obvious visual revamp and gameplay changes. Skating feels tight, snappy, and realistic, and the online multiplayer is the cherry on top.

Now, Activision returns with the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake. An exhilarating trailer is already out, detailing pleasant updates to the parks, skaters, and gameplay. Ace of Spades rocks in the background as Tony Hawk and crew kickflip their way across exciting skate maps. With the release date fast approaching, we’ve compiled everything we know about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 below.

What is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4?

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is an upcoming remake of the third and fourth titles in the legendary skating series. As with 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake, you can expect the original gameplay to remain intact.

However, there’ll be lots of quality-of-life changes, alongside revamps on the graphics and gameplay. You can look forward to tighter and snappier skating mechanics with both old and new, cool tricks to beat, as well as old and new skaters, parks, songs, and more.

Story

Get ready to rip and tear through new parks and timeless classics in the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake. The good news is that most of the gameplay you loved from the original will remain intact. However, you can expect revamps of graphics and mechanics for a more contemporary audience, as well as new skaters, parks, tricks, music, and more.

While there doesn’t seem to be an actual story campaign, those who played the original will remember that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 strayed from the norm, adding a new gameplay system. Rather than completing challenges under a set time limit, the fourth title allowed you to explore an open world, talking to NPCs who give you challenges to complete.

It meant that skaters could explore a more expansive and immersive world, which, if it was revamped in the upcoming remake, could have been potentially ripe for a profound story campaign. Unfortunately, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 doesn’t intend to abide by the open-world formula. Rather, the remake will go back to the timed challenges. In any case, many of the old crew skaters will be back, as will new ones from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake. From the trailer, the skaters look amazing, and so do the skate parks, where you’ll be showing off your best tricks.

Gameplay

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will be a cross-platform online multiplayer skating game, accommodating up to eight skaters in a gaming session. While you’ll play through the same game modes from the original, new ones will also be introduced. The same applies to the parks, which will feature both timeless classics and new ones. However, the parks have been remade in jaw-dropping 4K resolution.

Gameplay-wise, you’ll play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 formula of streamlined challenges under a strict two minutes. The limited time puts pressure on you to complete as many challenges as you can before the clock runs out. Among the returning features are Create-a-Skater and Create-a-Park. These allow you to create custom goals that you can share with friends.

Additionally, the remake will step up its game, presenting more, harder goals plus an enhanced New Game+ mode. Yet it’ll all be favorable to the casual and veteran player, thanks to smooth handling and easy-to-learn controls.

Development

A new developer is taking the reins of remaking the next collection in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series called Iron Galaxy Studios, while publisher Activision holds steady in bringing the new remake to market. Iron Gllaxy Studios will ensure that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 lives up to the legacy of its predecessor. This development studio is well-known for fighting games such as Killer Instinct and for porting large titles like Overwatch and Diablo III.

This gap was subsequently filled by Iron Galaxy Studios, who, as per the developers, are now working on the remake that will be faithful to the original games while also being modernized with better physics, smoother animations, and improved trick transitions. Enhanced feedback from the metric data post Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 game release is assuring a better refined experience for the gamers.

Trailer

Tony Hawk's™ Pro Skater™ 3 + 4 | Reveal Trailer

You’ll get the thrills watching familiar and new Skaters in action in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 reveal trailer. Tony Hawk skitches off a car, skating into magnificent parks to the tune of Ace of Spades. You might recognize some locations alongside new ones.

The Skaters, too, feature both old and new characters. While we don’t see much of the UI, the graphics are doubtlessly grander. They have definitely been revamped with better lighting, textures, and character models. It further enhances the cool tricks the skaters pull off as they flip and ride through the parks.

Towards the end, we’re given a glimpse into the new Waterpark track, which is, well, a waterpark featuring some potentially cool spots to pull off some daring moves. Although short and sweet, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 trailer is already sparking excitement among the skating gaming community.

It’ll definitely be a sweet, nostalgic experience to ride through familiar and new parks. Yet newcomers will also enjoy the mostly arcade skating simulator remade for the modern age.
