Action adventure fans have had a blissful year in 2024. It’s been a year of classic action and exploration games right from the start, with the likes of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in January. Star Wars Outlaws and Tomb Raider Remastered followed in early February, and the rest of the months followed with more releases. But even before we exhaust the list in 2024, developers are promising more hits in 2025. For now, the attention is drawn to The Knightling, a platforming action-adventure game from Twirlbound. Not much is out about the game for now, but here is everything we know about The Knightling

What is the Knightling?

 Knightling

The Knightling is an excellent video game addition for those who love to play their way to heroism as knights of their land. It is a 3D platforming action-adventure title developed by Twirlbound, with Saber Interactive as the publisher. Although the game has yet to be released, anticipation for its gameplay is already building among fans after its announcement in August 2024. The open-world platformer appears to draw inspiration from Zelda, tasking you with a challenging quest armed with just a shield. Take up your magical shield and immerse yourself in the adventure, completing quests, engaging in combat, and platforming in the semi-open world City of Clesseia.

Story

Game Story

Twirlbound will toss you into the mythical city of Clesseia, where all the action unfolds. The City thrives with the protection of the legendary knight, Sir Lionstone. He is the protector of this dignified city and the mentor to the knightling, your playable character. But after setting off for his latest quest, Sir Lionstone mysteriously disappears. So, with the most potent knight and protector of the land missing, what’s the fate of the City?

You’re Sir Lionstone’s most trusted knightling, and it’s now upon you to pick up the magical shield he left behind and become Clesseia’s new hero. You are tasked with protecting the people and finding Lionstone before the lurking threats catch up with your City.

Gameplay

The Knightly Gameplay

Your main objective is to protect the City of Clesseia from lurking enemies and embark on the audacious quest to find and save your mentor. However, there’s much more to do, which makes the overall gameplay thrilling. Explore the pleasant city, fight off the bandits and monsters, discover the land’s long-forgotten secrets, and trigger unusual powers from the shield.

You will start the game as a minor knight in training. But as soon as Sir Lionstone disappears, you must step up to become the hero. Gather your courage to fight even the most potent enemies, master your abilities and upgrade them to protect the people. Sir Lionstone’s shield is your only but most formidable weapon. Shields are meant for defence, but Knightling’s gameplay makes you realize the best offence is a good defence. Use the mighty shield to block, parry, bash, or even tear up enemy defences to deal with attacks to finish the job.

Your success in combat depends on how well you can harness the magical shield’s powers and arsenal of abilities. The shield contains a mysterious element, the Callyrium, which gives it bizarre powers. Explore the map with its unique movement abilities, making moving around the world bliss. Slide into the adventure across the different regions of Clesseia city. No one can stand in your way with the legendary shield. Master platforming and solve puzzles to unlock rewards for upgrades.

Development

Game: The Knightling

The Knightling’s developer hasn’t revealed much about the game’s development roadmap. But from the Clesseia map and the picturesque visuals, you can tell they aren’t letting any detail slip through the cracks. The knights resemble human cartoons but have been made to exhibit all the characteristics of real knights. From the body armour, swords, shields, and horseback movement. The horses are also not the ordinary horses that knights ride in films. They are unusual horses with massive horns and some stylish horse gear.

It’s a rather colourful game designed with excellent aesthetics in a semi-open world setting. And while it’s a 3D game, it doesn’t have absurdly high system requirements for players, except for the 10 GB required storage space. The minimum memory space is also capped at 8 GB RAM, although a 16 GB RAM is recommended. You are good to enjoy The Knightling gameplay on a PC with a Windows 10 operating system and a 64-bit processor.

Trailer

The Knightling – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch

Twirlbound and Saber Interactive announced the upcoming action-adventure game and its announcement trailer. This trailer, though brief at just 1 minute and 40 seconds, is currently the best source of information for eager fans. While it doesn’t showcase much action, it provides a glimpse of the characters and the game’s environment, offering a sneak peek at what players can expect in terms of visuals and atmosphere.

The trailer begins with an age rating that caps players to strictly above ten years, citing fantasy violence and alcohol references. In the next second, you will see what should supposedly be Sir Lionstone’s shield and a sword appear amid a deep-voiced explainer. You can see the small knightling train alongside Sir Lionstone. The protector slashes the wood and grass training pillar targets and hops onto his horse. In his quest for adventure, the knightling also attempts to hop on his horse and follow but topples to the opposite side.

You will love the game’s colour and a world full of life. The trailer will also show you a few quests. But it’s the knightling’s movement hovering over the shield and striking enemies that gives you the accurate picture of The Knightling’s playthrough.
