The Fox’s Way Home

The Fox’s Way Home is an upcoming adventure game offering a unique journey through a mystical world influenced by Japanese folklore. The game joins the impressive list of folklore-inspired titles like Okami and Ghost of Tsushima

Set to release in Q3 2024, it promises an engaging blend of observation, puzzle-solving, and visual storytelling. Additionally, the game is expected to be available in multiple languages, including English and Japanese. As we anticipate its official launch, here is everything we know about The Fox’s Way Home.

What Is the Fox’s Way Home?

The Fox’s Way Home is an upcoming adventure game by BeXide Inc. In this game, players find themselves in a mystical world that is neither fully real nor entirely hidden. The main goal is to escape this strange world and return to reality. To do this, players must follow the guidance of a Fox Shrine Maiden.

Story

The Fox’s Way Home

The story of The Fox’s Way Home is quite simple. The game traps you in a realm between the real world and a hidden one. To escape, you need to follow the guidance of the Fox Shrine Maiden. She performs various rituals, and you must observe them. However, your journey is filled with challenges. Mononoke, a ghostly apparition, appears to trick you by mimicking the Shrine Maiden.

These mononokes are very convincing. Consequently, you fail the ritual if you mistake one for the real Shrine Maiden. To succeed, you must correctly identify the real Shrine Maiden and call out her name. When you do this, a lantern lights up, indicating you are one step closer to escaping.

The story is all about trust, perception, and overcoming illusions. However, the Shrine Maiden’s alluring charm can be challenging. It can easily distract players from noticing the differences that reveal the mononoke’s true nature.

Overall, The Fox’s Way Home is about navigating through a world of illusions. But now, you must rely on careful observation to find your way back to reality. It’s a test of both focus and judgment. Ultimately, each successful identification of the real Shrine Maiden is a rewarding step towards completing the game.

Gameplay

Gameplay

For you to succeed in The Fox’s Way Home, you must equip yourself with careful observation skills and quick decision-making. As the player, your main task is to watch the Fox Shrine Maiden’s dances and rituals closely. These performances are your key to distinguishing the real Maiden from the deceptive Mononoke.

The game challenges you to pay attention to every detail of the Shrine Maiden’s rituals. Each ritual involves a specific sequence of movements and gestures. As you observe, you must memorize these details to identify any inconsistencies that might indicate the presence of a Mononoke. This requires focus and sharp observation skills.

Mononoke are tricky apparitions that can appear at any time, taking on the form of the Shrine Maiden. If you think you’ve spotted a Mononoke, call it out. If you do so correctly, the Mononoke will disappear, and a lantern will light up as a sign of your success. However, if you mistakenly accuse the real Shrine Maiden of being a Mononoke, the ritual fails, and you’ll need to try again.

The primary objective in the game is to light all eight lanterns. Each correct identification of the real Shrine Maiden lights up one lantern. Lighting all eight lanterns signifies that you have successfully navigated the challenges.

Now, here is the catch. As you progress through the game and expose different Mononoke, you can document their forms in the “Apparition Encyclopedia.” This feature serves as a record of your journey and a helpful guide. It allows you to review the various Mononoke you’ve encountered, helping you to recognize them better in future rituals.

Overall, The Fox’s Way Home offers a unique gameplay experience that blends puzzle-solving with a deep, folklore-inspired narrative. It’s all about being observant and trusting your instincts.
