Stupid Never Dies: Everything We Know

Know what makes an action game a whole lot better? A splash of paint with every hack-and-slash and pew-pew shot out of your blaster. Still, not quite sure what GPTRACK50’s next game intends to be. But the trailer sure does look hella electric.

Hi-Fi Rush fans should also be excited, with the upcoming game looking a lot similar. It also has a lot of Lollipop Chainsaw vibes. But instead of the chainsaw-wielding cheerleader and zombie hunter, you’ll be playing her zombie lover. Anyway, tag along while we compile everything we know about Stupid Never Dies.

What is Stupid Never Dies?

Stupid Never Dies: Everything We Know

Stupid Never Dies is an upcoming 3D action role-playing game by GPTRACK50 Incorporated. It features all kinds of fantasy, supernatural creatures, including a zombie main character, and werewolves, skeletons, and lizardmen. They’re called monsters in the game, living normal lives.

Besides Davy, the other main character is Julia, a frozen human. She’s stuck in a dangerous dungeon, and it falls on Davy, her lover, to fight through swarms of enemies and monsters and rescue her.

Overall, the developers are promising a wild experience full of delightful experiences and ‘blazing fast growth,” whatever that means.

Story

The game’s Steam page gives a brief description of what to expect. Lovers Davy and Julia get separated, with Julia getting trapped in a dungeon. And Davy has to rescue Julia. It’s unclear how Davy turned into a zombie, and Julia remains a frozen human. Can they even be together in that state?

Anyway, Steam goes further to confirm that Davy will have allies helping him out. And that they’ll have unique abilities. In the teaser trailer, Davy is shown summoning swarms of zombies from the Earth. Perhaps these are the allies you’ll fight beside.

The enemies, meanwhile, will be unnatural, including skeletons, werewolves, and lizardmen. Evidently, it’s going to take pulling out all the tricks to get past the monsters in this strange world.

Gameplay

Stupid Never Dies: Everything We Know

Stupid Never Dies will be a single-player game. Seems you’ll be exploring an otherworldly dungeon, where monsters rule and thrive. Your main character will be a zombie who comes from humble origins. He’s an underdog, with little power or influence in the monster society.

However, he has to sum up the courage to take on distinct monsters. You’ll level him up to defeat stronger enemies and collect weird items that help you grow more powerful. All in the dangerous quest of rescuing Julia, your frozen human girlfriend, from a dungeon, and restoring her life.

Among Stupid Never Dies’ mechanics will be stealing enemy abilities. You’ll be able to customize your abilities with ‘bizarre upgrades.’ On the action front, it’ll take place in fast-paced combat, but also be elevated by innovation.

The trailer looks pretty colorful and energetic. Music-wise, I’m expecting bopping tracks inspired by punk rock and 2000s style. A chaotic and intense combat should serve adrenaline chasers well.

Development

DIVE

Developer and publisher GPTRACK50 Inc., is currently working on Stupid Never Dies. They’ve only just recently announced the upcoming game at The Game Awards 2025. You can find comfort in the fact that the studio is made up of veteran action game developers.

A little background: GPTRACK50 is a new studio created by NetEase Games. They aim to develop new game IPs and publish them worldwide. They’re based in Osaka, Japan, and led by President Hiroyuki Kobayashi. Yup, the same guy known for producing Resident Evil: Degeneration, The Final Chapter, and Welcome to Raccoon City.

Despite Stupid Never Dies’ stark similarities to Hi-Fi Rush, the developers’ Steam description claims this will be “unlike anything you’ve played before.” Not to mention glaring similarities to Lollipop Chainsaw, featuring a legendary zombie hunter and chainsaw-wielding cheerleader called Juliet. Yup, Juliet sounds awfully similar to Julia, Davy’s girlfriend, who needs rescuing.

In any case, the trailer does have lots of inspirations, including hack-and-slash reminiscent of Devil May Cry. And even Japanese Swery65 and Suda 51 Deadly Premonition vibes. We’ll have to wait and see what GPTRACK50 does differently that sets Stupid Never Dies up for success.

Having been two years so far of in-house development, and just under 30 employees, I’m sure Kobayashi’s sentiment about the game ending up “sharper,” and “much more entertaining than I ever imagined at the start” rings true.

Trailer

Check out Stupid Never Dies’ teaser trailer, uploaded on GPTRACK50’s YouTube page. A pretty good bunch of it is a music video, with Davy and Julia performing a punk rock-style song reminiscent of the 2000s. Davy is a zombie, crawling up the steps to meet Julia, a human cheerleader who has a rifle, pinned at her lover.

I quite enjoyed the music video bit, and definitely wouldn’t mind it on my Spotify favorites. The dancing is cute, too, harkening to the Joker and Harley Quinn’s fun and ecstatic relationship. Apparently, this is the theme song that will feature in the final game.

And then comes the gameplay bit, which has plenty of visual effects and chaos on screen. I can see how the music video’s vibrant colors and energy will blend seamlessly with the combat.

Kobayashi himself seems overly passionate about the art style, saying, “We’ve put a tremendous amount of effort into the visuals,” and that, “We’ve poured so much care into designing the characters as well.” So can’t wait to see what the final game’s all about.
