Star Wars Zero Company: Everything We Know
Star Wars fans are literally counting down to 19 April as they await the unveiling of Star Wars Zero Company at the Star Wars Celebration Japan. The game, announced over two years ago, will be a single-player tactical experience set during the Clone Wars era. The player will command an elite team of unconventional operatives on missions across the galaxy far, far away.
Bi Reactor, the company behind XCOM, Elder Scrolls Online, and Civilization, is the team developing the title. They are working with EA’s Respawn Entertainment, known for other amazing titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Apex Legends, as well as Disney’s Lucasfilm Games. Although there’s limited information about the title for now, fans can expect a fresh strategic take, where your brain will be your best weapon. Here’s everything we know so far.
What is Star Wars Zero Company?

Star Wars Zero Company will be the newest Star Wars gaming universe addition. The single-player, turn-based tactical game is set in the galaxy far, far away. You will command an elite squad operating during the tumultuous Clone Wars period. Expect missions that are different from typical Star Wars fare, like the huge battles or Jedi vs. Sith lightsaber duels. The missions will likely involve covert ops, sabotage, tactical infiltration, and other small-unit tasks, for which strategy is more important than firepower.
Story

Zero Company is set amidst the Clone Wars. The player assumes the role of a commander of an elite team of unconventional operatives. You will lead them through missions across the galaxy. Although the specific plot details remain under wraps, the game narrative will likely delve into the complexities of war. It will explore themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and moral ambiguities that those on the front line face.
According to the poster shared on the Star Wars website, the squad includes diverse backgrounds, skills, and combat roles. This gives you plenty of tactical options as you plan missions. The characters on the image from left to right include an Umbaran with a rifle slung across their back — likely a stealth or sniper-type unit, a Tognath Jedi — expect melee and Force abilities, ideal for close-quarters control, and a human with a tactical hologram. This will likely be the commander, your in-game POV, or strategist.
There’s also a Clone Trooper armed with a blaster, who will likely be your balanced frontline soldier, and an astromech droid. It’s generally used for hacking, support, or utility tasks in battle. Finally, there’s Mandalorian with a jetpack. It will probably be your mobile attacker or scout. It is good for vertical movement and flanking.
However, you can expect Star Wars to reveal more characters at the Star Wars Celebration Japan or when the game finally launches. The website states the characters in the poster are just a few elite team members under the player’s command, and we should wait for more details after the April 19 event.
Gameplay

The Clone Wars is a popular era among Star Wars fans, so it’s great that they have brought it back. However, this title brings a bold change to how you experience the Star Wars universe. Instead of the usual fast-paced action, you will engage in slower, smarter, turn-based tactical combat. So, it won’t matter how quickly you strike, but how well you plan it.
The game is inspired by classics like XCOM and Fire Emblem. It places you in control of a small, handpicked squad, where each member has unique strengths and tactical roles. You will need to think like a battle commander. Each character fills a combat niche, and how you deploy them can make or break a mission. Each mission will require adaptability and foresight. It will challenge you with a mix of combat scenarios, stealth operations, and sabotage tasks.
Although not officially confirmed, expect to see iconic planets like Kamino, Geonosis, and Mandalore as backdrops to your operation. Also, because the game is being developed by Bit Reactor, the developer behind XCOM, fans speculate that it may have gameplay mechanics similar to those of their other strategy titles.
Development

Zero Company is the work of industry powerhouse Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment, supported by Lucasfilm Games. Bit Reactor is a strategy game studio formed by veterans from games like Civilization, XCOM, Elder Scrolls Online, and Gears of War. Their experience crafting engaging strategy games positions them well to bring a new dimension to the Star Wars gaming universe. Respawn Entertainment is the creator of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Titanfall, and Apex Legends.
The title is one of the three Star Wars projects Respawn announced in 2022. The other was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which launched in 2023, and an upcoming first-person shooter.
Trailer
At the time of writing, the Star Wars Zero Company developers had not released a trailer. They announced the game through a post on their website and social media. The only available information is about the developers and the genre.
The first look at the game is scheduled to be unveiled during a special panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan on April 19, 2025. The event will be held at 4:30 PM JST, giving fans their first real glimpse of this project. Although eager fans are calling for the Star Wars team to release a trailer during the celebration, all we know is they will share more about the title, but that doesn’t mean they will release a trailer. All we can do now is admire the poster on their website and hope the title will be as good as the image.
Tickets for the event have already sold out, but fans can still join the celebration through the official live stream on Star Wars’ website or YouTube channel. Furthermore, fans can find updated information about the title on the Developer’s website or social media accounts.

The release date for Zero Company is yet to be announced. However, the game is confirmed to be in development for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. We expect the upcoming reveal at Star Wars Celebration Japan to shed more light on the game’s launch timeline.
