Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot — Everything We Know

Following Konfa Games and tinyBuild's March 15th announcement, we now have confirmation on the duo's next project – Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot. Yet again, Konfa Games is constructing a spin-off in the same Despot universe that we know and love. So, what strange and unusual circumstance will we find ourselves in this time? Read on to find out, because here's everything we know so far about Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot thus far.

What is Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot

Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot is an 8-bit rogue-lite arcade shooter developed by Konfa Games. If you're interested in this title, that's most likely because you're coming from Despotism 3K or Despot's Game: Dystopian Battle Simulator. However, in this spin-off, you're no longer playing as the AI or Humans. Instead, you play as the goo used to artificially produce humans, which has now become self-conscious. As the goo, you are now on a war-torn quest to exact vengeance on your creator, Despot.

All in all, it looks like a unique arcade shooter with a lot of personality – just like its predecessors. So, keep on reading to find out everything we know so far about Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot.

Story

In Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot, you play as the goo used to create humans, which has come to life after developing and becoming self-aware. And you're not accepting Despot's everyday use for you lightly. Now with a mind of your own, it's time for revenge. However, in order to exact revenge and become the new tyrant, you must investigate the facility and devour humans, robots, and monsters in order to grow stronger than everything blocking your path. Essentially, grow and improve yourself and your weaponry to become an unstoppable killing machine. With one goal in mind: Take on Despot, the villainous artificial intelligence that unintentionally opened Pandora's box and now has to try to stop your jelly rampage.

Gameplay

Slime 3K: Rise against Despot's combat and gameplay consists of squishing and shooting enemies with different upgradeable weapons. While some rogue-lite shooters' combat is as simple as moving and not getting hit by the enemy, Slime 3K: Rise, Agaisnt Despot, adds a layer of strategy with an ability system. From what we saw, it appears that you can have six abilities at once that alter the game's combat. In terms of what exact aspects this has for gameplay, we'll just have to wait and find out.

While there is no information on how each level will work, we can assume it will be similar to other titles such as The Binding of Isaac. Where each level consists of clearing rooms, that progress the gameplay and story. According to everything we know from the Steam page, there is a large amount of content that allows you to experiment with builds for combat. Each weapon and ability has an upgrade system that increases damage or adds AOE effects, giving elements of custom and dynamic weapon selection.

Development

On March 15th, the first announcement for Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot was made, detailing the plot of the game and some of its highlights. Unfortunately, we don’t have much information on the development side of things and this is everything we know so far. Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot's development is still in its early phases, with little information available. Trailer

Unfortunately, no trailer was made available alongside the announcement, though we're sure we'll get one at launch. That being said, five screenshots and a gif were published for the press kit. Each screenshot depicts a different type of enemy, such as cybernetic creatures, giant robots, and, of course, the tiny pink humans created by the goo. Nonetheless, hopefully, a trailer showcasing the gameplay will be released within the next month, until then this is everything we know based on the screenshots.

Release Date, Platform, Editions

Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot was first announced on March 15th, 2023. Although it didn't come with an exact release date, it is planned to launch in 2023. With that in mind, we'd anticipate its release between the beginning of Q3 and the end of Q4. Despot's Game: Dystopian Battle Simulator was published in late September 2022. And, If history repeats itself (which it frequently does), we'd suspect it to release around the same time frame in 2023.

However, on the good side of things, Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot will launch for all major systems. That's right, it's been revealed to land for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It's no secret, that as an indie game, this is enormous for the developers as it opens up the game for so many more players. And we're glad to see Konfa getting recognization and development for their unique series.

There is presently no information on Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot game editions. Having said that, here is everything we know or can assume based on the other titles from this team. Of course, there is the regular edition that includes the basic game. However, we also suspect them to release a collector's edition. Most likely, this would contain the base game, soundtrack, and challenges to add more gameplay. However, that is purely speculation. Nonetheless, we'd assume there will be at least two editions, one standard, and one collector.
