RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe: Everything We Know

Atari and Orbit Studio have teased a new and improved edition of the universally acclaimed RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures game, giving it a new “Deluxe” extension that’ll reportedly bring over 80 new attractions and a selection of enhanced features to consoles and PC.
“RollerCoaster Tycoon is one of the most endearing video game franchises ever, with tens of millions having played an RollerCoaster Tycoon game over the past two and a half decades,” said Atari CEO Wade Rosen in a press release. “We are very excited to bring this updated, deluxe version of Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures to fans on console and PC.”
So, what’s new with RollerCoaster Tycoon, and what more will it bring to the debut entry that launched just four short years ago? Well, here’s everything we’ve been able to gather on the project since Atari first removed its veil earlier this week. RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe: what, when, and most of all, why?
What Is RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe?

Just to remind you, the original RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures launched back in 2018 on Nintendo Switch. The updated version, which will be headed up by Orbit Studio, will essentially look to enhance the core features of the handheld entry, and in turn bring it to several new platforms. As for what’ll make the cut outside of the newly announced 200+ attractions isn’t clear, though one of the newest features appears to be its ability to gel with console controllers and modern hardware. So, less on-screen clutter, and more compact mechanics on a grander scale, basically.
From the horse’s mouth: “RCT Adventures Deluxe is an all-ages treat for players who love theme park simulations and fans who like to build coasters. The intuitive coaster builder lets you create wild, death-defying coasters that twist and turn, swoop and swirl.”
Story

RollerCoaster Tycoon hasn’t exactly been one for fleshed out storylines, so don’t expect anything out of the ordinary with the upcoming extension to the Adventures chapter. That said, it will roll out its signature Adventure Mode, which will see you building a theme park from the grassy roots up in a bid to make not only the best, but the most iconic bastions of adrenaline-fuelled joy on the planet.
There isn’t a whole lot to unpack here, what with it being a sandbox game at heart. More to the point, it won’t delve any deeper than what the player is willing to dive for; stories are developed based on the choices one makes throughout their journey. So, if it’s a linear narrative with A-to-B progression you’re looking for, then it’s doubtful that you’ll find it here, or anywhere in the RCT universe, for that matter.
Gameplay

There’ll be three game modes on launch: Sandbox, which will allow players the freedom to build without limits and with custom rules; Adventure, which will serve as the game’s primary mode—a tale in which players must shovel through a series of seasonal objectives; and Scenarios, which will be broken down into several themed episodes, each belonging to one of dozens of coaster parks. Nothing out of the ordinary there, then.
Game modes aside, RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe will introduce souped-up customization options and opportunities to flex a few extra creative muscles. In addition to 80 new rides to build, the Deluxe edition will also make way for a sleek, modernized interface, which will allow for users to build the parks of their dreams with fewer technical curveballs and much less on-screen clutter.
Of course, it’s a traditional RTC game at heart, so expect more than coaster construction and slideshow maintenance. As with any game in its library, Adventures Deluxe will also have you juggling finances, property, and the guests’ overall happiness. Depending on the mode you choose from the get-go, these objectives will either provide a year-round challenge, or a relaxed experience with more wriggle room than in, say, Adventure or Scenarios.
Development

Granted, a beefed up version of the Adventures episode wasn’t on any wishlist prior to Atari making the formal announcement earlier this month. That said, given the amount of attention its Switch debut received, it didn’t come as much of a surprise, either. Question is, will its successor bring anything to boost the appeal, or will it serve only as a console port with copied and pasted templates? Only time will tell on that one.
Fans can expect to get their hands on the upcoming Deluxe version at some point in 2023. According to the press release, the game will launch on all platforms, including ex-gen consoles and PC. You can add it to your wishlist on the Epic Games Store here.
Trailer
Sadly, there isn’t actually any footage of the latest edition of RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures. Or at least, not yet, anyway. That said, you can check out the original trailer of the game that launched back in 2018 up above. Picture that, but with a few technical and graphical improvements, and you’ll have a vague idea of what the Deluxe edition will look like. To some extent, anyway.
Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Atari and Orbit Studio will be bringing RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC via the Epic Games Store at some point in late 2023. As for when in 2023 it’ll release hasn’t been made public. Our guess, though, is that it’ll launch in Q4 2023.
Of course, it’s a repackaging of a Switch game, so don’t expect any special editions to come out of this one. You can pre-order or wishlist the standard version over on the Epic Games Store here.
