The game mixes storytelling with classic co-op platforming mechanics. You can think of it as a playable stop-motion movie that also happens to be a puzzle game. Out of Words Story

In Out of Words, players step into the roles of Kurt and Karla, two characters who find themselves without voices. Together, they explore the handcrafted world of Vokabulantis, a strange and vivid place filled with challenges, movement-based puzzles, and environments built entirely by hand.
The story centers on their journey to find their lost voices. But it’s more than just a search. As they move deeper into Vokabulantis, Kurt and Karla are drawn into a larger struggle – one that puts both their connection and the world’s future at risk. It’s described as “a story about the first time they held hands”, suggesting that their bond plays a central role in the game’s progression.
The world is in danger, and so is their relationship. Whether they can fix either one depends on how well they move together, think together, and work through the obstacles ahead.
Out of Words Gameplay

Out of Words will offer a co-op gameplay experience where two players have to work in tandem to overcome obstacles and solve inventive puzzles. The game is played from a side-scrolling perspective, reminiscent of titles like Unravel Two, and it will demand true teamwork and precise timing from both players.
One scene in the trailer shows Kurt and Karla exploring a gravity-defying library, where one character walks upside-down on the ceiling while the other moves along the floor below – perfectly illustrating their need to cooperate. Players will need to coordinate on physics-defying challenges like flipping gravity or swinging across gaps. The twist is that Kurt and Karla cannot speak, so you and your partner will have to talk out solutions in real life. In short, the gameplay seems to focus more on interaction between both characters than fast action or combat.
Development

The development of Out of Words is just as interesting as the game itself. A unique team is behind it — they describe themselves as “from puppet masters, to programmers, to poets.” Kong Orange is an indie game studio. They focus on creative game design. WiredFly is a stop-motion animation studio. Their work centers on storytelling through handmade visuals. The original idea for the world of Vokabulantis came from Danish poet and writer Morten Søndergaard.
This team blends game development, stop-motion filmmaking, and poetry into one project. That’s rare in the gaming world. The team builds every part of Out of Words — characters, buildings, and objects as real physical models. They scan those models into the game afterward. So, everything you see in the game exists as a real object first.
Epic Games Publishing is backing and publishing the project. That gives the game strong support, even though a small team is building it.
