For the Stars: Everything We Know

No Man’s Sky did it best. The question is, can For the Stars match it? The overall concept the upcoming game proposes seems a lot similar to No Man’s Sky. Yet, it’s still in the early stages of development, where most of the information we have is based on concept art and what looks to be pre-rendered screenshots. Still, venturing out into the stars to discover alien species and new technology will never get boring. We certainly have quite a ton of survival games set in space. As the upcoming game prepares to join the crowd, let’s take a look at how it plans to stand out. Cue For the Stars: Everything We Know.
What is For the Stars?

For the Stars is an upcoming space-themed survival sandbox MMO game. It’ll feature the exploration of alien planets, the discovery of new technologies, and the colonizing of unchartered planets. You’ll jump from planet to planet aboard your spaceship, which you will build and upgrade over time. While exploring new planets, you’ll discover distinct species and biomes. On each discovery mission, you’ll have the freedom of setting up a base to grow a new colony. It’s quite an ambitious venture with a lot of cogs to fasten ahead of launch. Yet the concept sounds exciting, especially for space enthusiasts.
Story

Jump aboard your spaceship and venture out into a vast galaxy, exploring new planets. Each planet will be unique in its secrets, mysteries, and challenges. They will essentially be biomes that will doubtlessly keep your playthrough refreshing. Since you’ll be taking the role of an avid explorer and scientist, your main motivation will be to discover what’s out there. Whether alien species or resources, you’ll find ways to use your discoveries to your advantage. Resources can power your spaceship, for instance, or upgrade your spaceship. But you can also stumble onto unfriendly planets that call for diplomacy or battle. You’ll seek to colonize new planets, establishing a thriving colony that makes use of the planet’s unique traits and resources. Can you build a legacy among the stars?

Development

Snail Games is developing and publishing For the Stars. The studio dabbles in multiple projects, from gaming to streaming, film, and television. You probably know Snail Games from the ARK series and Atlas, among others. The survival MMO genre is certainly not the studio’s first rodeo. So, there’s a high chance the studio will deliver. Still, Snail Games hasn’t had the best reputation. In the past, they have abandoned some great games with potential or launched unoptimized games. Apparently, For the Stars has been in development for three years now. Yet, we don’t have any actual gameplay footage. Anyway, since the announcement has only just been made, sneak peeks into development so far will probably come a little later.
Trailer
Snail Games has yet to release a story or gameplay trailer. All we have for now is a developer Q&A video that talks about the upcoming game. In the video, you can spot some clean snapshots of the environment, including the spaceship and some stylish spacesuits. The video doesn’t show actual gameplay footage, with the snapshots looking like pre-rendered images of the concept. It’s clear the game is still a long way from launch. It may very well be in the early phase of development. Still, the concept seems exciting. And, while it’s ambitious to merge exploration of diverse planets, colony building and management, and dynamic battles into one game, we’re crossing our fingers, hoping that Snail Games can pull it off.
Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

The announcement doesn’t reveal a release date, and neither does For the Stars’ Steam page. Still, we can at least confirm that it’ll launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms via Steam and Epic Store. However, no editions have been confirmed. In the meantime, if you have a Steam account, you can add the game to your wishlist to get a notification when it drops. You can also follow the official social handle here to stay on top of new announcements as they come up.
