Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue – Everything We Know
There can never be enough city builders, especially those that blend management simulation and dungeon crawling in their gameplay. Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue is one such game that, while still in the very early stages of development, has raised excitement over its launch. Assuming we won’t be stuck in limbo waiting for the final drop, you can get up to speed with everything we know so far about Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue below.
What is Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue?

Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue is an upcoming medieval fantasy kingdom-building, management simulation, and dungeon-crawling RPG game. It’ll task you with gathering resources to survive and set up kingdoms. You’ll hunt wild animals for food and nurture a thriving community. But danger will strike, whether on your doorstep or the kind you go looking for. Specifically, you’ll venture out into dungeons to face formidable monsters in exchange for treasures and rewards. The more you play, the more rewards you’ll reap, unlocking new weapons and progressing your kingdom’s technological prowess.
Story

In Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue, you’ll step into the shoes of a leader who is in charge of protecting and looking after a small group of refugees. The refugees have run away from their homeland, which has been declared unlivable. Now, it’s up to you to create a new life for your people. You’ll kick off building structures for shelter. But while you can build everything yourself, you’ll probably be faster drawing blueprints and directing people to get to work. The idea is to have different structures that cater to the needs of your people. But also, find ways to manage those needs, whether gathering resources from your surroundings, farming crops, or hunting wild animals for nourishment. Your goal is to survive at whatever cost.
Once you’ve settled down, it’s time to explore the dungeons. There’ll be different types of dungeons, each with dangerous monsters at bay. You’ll venture out to the depths of the dungeons, exploring room after room for resources. When you stumble onto an enemy, you’ll tap into your combat abilities to take them down. Defeating the bosses of each dungeon will reap huge rewards, which you’ll use to unlock better technology and gear.
Gameplay

Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue plans to blend medieval fantasy strategy and RPG gameplay. Check out the key features you can expect in the final game below.
- Start from humble beginnings – At the start, you’ll need to scavenge for food and supplies for your people. You’ll craft useful equipment that allows you to harvest construction materials to build different structures. Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue plans to feature realistic full day and night cycles that will incorporate different seasons, each pushing you to learn new skills.
- Expand your village – With time, you’ll upgrade your buildings, exploring over 500 unique structures. You can construct buildings from scratch or design blueprints that your villagers can use. Further, you can share your blueprints via Steam to edit and improve on them.
- Master terraforming – Farming will be key, as you research the lands and find the best places for farming. You can manipulate the land by making it flatter or raising platforms for your buildings. You can fill in valleys, dig trenches, and more. You can also plant new grass or remove vegetation to expand your economy further.
- Fight for your kingdom – You’ll run into hostile enemies outside your kingdom, including wild animals, outlaws, raiders, and more. Using third-person action RPG combat, you’ll take on enemies and protect your people from harm.
- Delve into dungeons – But monsters will also lurk in the dungeons that you’ll explore. Dungeons will vary from ancient temples to ruins, divided into rooms. You’ll explore each room, taking on bosses in exchange for rewards and better technology.
Development

Uncle Grouch Gaming and Camlann Games are currently working on developing and publishing Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue. You may know Uncle Grouch Gaming from We Are the Universe, which combines tower defense and RTS gameplay. It seems the developer is dabbling in genre mash-ups again in collaboration with Camlann Games. The publisher has plenty of games on their docket, including Underspace, The Ancients, Neural Dominion, and more. While it’s highly likely the new game will hit Early Access first, hopefully, it doesn’t stay in development for too long. God knows the audience for RPG dungeon crawling exists, primed and ready for combat. And with the genre blend, the new game is even more likely to cast a wider net, capturing fans of management sims and fantasy kingdom builders while at it.
Trailer
Do check out the Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue official reveal trailer out now on YouTube. The combat looks a bit rough, with evidently, and hopefully, a lot more work to fine-tune and polish it. The same goes for the graphics, which aren’t too bad. The low-fidelity models aren’t an instant sell, with moments where they look a little wonky. Plus, the tree still standing despite the missing base looks comical. Overall, the gameplay seems like a fun concept that, if implemented well, has immense potential to hit with gamers.
Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Dungeons & Kingdoms: Prologue’s Steam store page is already out now. However, it only lists “coming soon” as the release date for the upcoming game. Unfortunately, that’s all we know about the release window, but you can add the game to your Steam wishlist to get a notification as soon as it drops. The upcoming game is currently slated for launch on PC platforms. If there will be any console ports or editions available for preorder, they are unconfirmed at this time.
There’s a high chance the new game will be released into Early Access first, with the Steam store page stating, “Mix and match over 500 unique building pieces, with more to come during early access.” So, do keep an eye out for that via the official social handle here or right here on gaming.net.
