DREADMOOR: Everything We Know

Avatar photo
Title screen: Dreadmoor, eerie fishing adventure

If you’ve played Dredge and enjoyed its eerie fishing vibes, then DREADMOOR should definitely be on your radar. But don’t get it twisted — while this game shares a few similarities with Dredge, like fishing and mysterious waters, this one takes things in a much darker, more complex direction.

From the very first glimpse in the trailer, it’s clear that DREADMOOR isn’t just about casting lines and hauling in your catch. What if the ocean wasn’t just full of fish… but nightmares? What if every catch could kill you, or worse, reveal something you were never supposed to know? This game promises a post-apocalyptic, monster-infested fishing adventure with Lovecraftian horror vibes, survival elements, and deep narrative twists. And if you are excited, here’s everything we know so far about DREADMOOR — from gameplay and development to release info and platform details.

What is DREADMOOR?

Sailing through DREADMOOR's ominous red hallucination zone

DREADMOOR is an upcoming first-person adventure game with a unique twist: it mixes fishing with Lovecraftian inspired world. It’s set in a post-nuclear apocalypse world where most of the land has sunk beneath the sea. You play as a lone fisherman exploring these flooded lands on your trusty trawler. But unlike a relaxing fishing sim, DREADMOOR will have you fending off mutated sea monsters and uncovering eerie mysteries along the way.

Developed and published by Dream Dock (a small indie studio), the game is promised to blend exploration, survival, and storytelling in a dark, atmospheric setting. Think of it as part survival RPG, part fishing simulator, and part horror experience all rolled into one.

DREADMOOR Story

Dark fishing village lit by lanterns

After a global nuclear war, the world has changed completely. The continents are gone, swallowed by rising oceans, and now only bits of land remain scattered across what’s left of Earth. As the captain of a beat-up fishing trawler, your mission is simple on the surface — catch fish, sell them, and survive.

But the deeper you go, the stranger things get. There are hints of something ancient and powerful hiding in the flooded ruins. Abandoned buildings, sunken ships, and strange creatures all hold clues to what really happened to the world. The story mixes survival with a narrative-driven adventure, and based on what the devs have shared, it’ll include cutscenes, characters, and a linear storyline for players who prefer a structured path.

DREADMOOR Gameplay

Fishing in eerie waters

If you’ve played Dredge, then you’ll recognize the idea of fishing in a creepy setting. But DREADMOOR takes that concept and expands on it in nearly every direction. It’s a first-person game, which means you’re right there on the deck of your trawler, seeing the eerie fog, hearing the distant roars, and experiencing every unsettling moment up close.

From what’s been shared, players will fish over 100 species of marine creatures, some of which are far from ordinary. Catching them won’t be easy either. You’ll need to craft bait, upgrade your gear, and learn which fish prefer which conditions. And then there’s the hold — your ship’s cargo area, where predatory fish might literally eat the other fish you’ve caught if you don’t manage them correctly.

Moreover, exploration isn’t limited to the sea, either. You’ll go on land for crucial looting missions. Abandoned buildings, sunken ships, and underground tunnels hide valuable materials and secrets. Inventory management plays a key role too, using a “Tetris-style” system where you’ll need to think about placement, contamination, and even how aggressive your catch might be. And combat is also part of the gameplay. Both on land and sea, monsters will attack — and you’ll have to fight back. Crafting harpoons, medicines, and tools will be necessary to survive the ever-changing dangers of the Drownlands.

Development

DREADMOOR is being developed by Dream Dock. It’s a small indie team that’s clearly putting everything they have into this project. According to the devs, they’re working in Unreal Engine 5. They aim to create a deeply atmospheric, narrative-heavy game. The developers seem fully committed to bringing this eerie vision to life. They’ve even made personal sacrifices to fund the project — reportedly selling their own cars to raise money (via app2top).

They’ve been transparent about their inspirations. The game draws inspiration from the 2023 indie hit Dredge, but the creators aim to take the concept even further. So, Dream Dock is going all-in on DREADMOOR as their debut title, hoping to deliver an experience that stands out from the crowd. Right now, Dream Dock is actively working on a demo and looking for additional funding.

Trailer

The trailer for DREADMOOR doesn’t reveal much, but it clearly sets the tone for a spooky fishing adventure. It shows eerie waters, strange creatures, and a mysterious atmosphere. Players can expect to catch fish, trade them, loot abandoned areas, fight off dangerous creatures, and more. If you haven’t watched it yet, make sure to check out the trailer embedded above!

On Reddit, the developers have confirmed that an official gameplay trailer will be released in the near future. So if you’re eager to see how the game actually plays, stay tuned for that.

Dream Dock hasn’t locked in an official release date for DREADMOOR yet, but the team is aiming for a full launch sometime in 2026. In the meantime, they’re working on an early demo, which should give players a first look at the game’s mechanics and atmosphere before release.

At launch, the game will be available on PC via Steam. The team has also confirmed that it’ll be coming to the Epic Games Store a bit later. There’s no official word on console releases yet, but the devs say it’s quite likely we’ll see DREADMOOR on consoles eventually. As for editions, there haven’t been any announcements about special or deluxe versions. For the latest updates, you can follow the devs’ official social media account here.
