Cyberpunk 2077 Surpasses 30 Million Copies Sold

Cyberpunk 2077 has officially hit a significant milestone, with total sales surpassing 30 million copies since its release in December 2020.
Despite launching to widespread criticism due to performance issues and missing features, CD Projekt RED has successfully revitalized the game’s reputation through continuous updates, expansions, and community engagement.
The release of the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion played a pivotal role in reigniting interest in the sci-fi RPG, adding compelling storylines and new features. The expansion itself has sold over 8 million copies, underscoring the franchise’s growing popularity. CD Projekt’s collaboration with Netflix on the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners also contributed to the game’s resurgence, introducing the franchise to a broader audience and sparking renewed enthusiasm.
“This milestone reflects the dedication of our community,” said Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt’s joint CEO, during the company’s Q3 2024 earnings report.
The future of Cyberpunk looks bright, as the studio confirmed that early development has begun on a sequel to the game. Additionally, CD Projekt is hard at work on Project Polaris, the first installment in a new Witcher trilogy, which has now entered full-scale production.

While Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was marred by controversy, its impressive sales figures demonstrate a remarkable turnaround. CD Projekt’s commitment to quality content and fan engagement continues to fuel its success.
