Celebrating The Sims’ 25th Anniversary

It has been a quarter of a century since Maxis first launched its groundbreaking life simulation and sandbox sensation, The SimsThat’s right, we’re officially old, folks; the 25th anniversary serves as a timely reminder that we, as much as it pains us to admit, are aging a lot faster than our virtual ancestors did back in 2000. Perhaps, then, that ought to explain the lack of fresh material, or even an official statement from Electronic Arts pertaining to a sequel: collectively, the studio would soon rather commemorate its beloved time capsule than move on to new and exciting horizons — hence the lack of news surrounding The Sims 5, which is highly unlikely to debut at any point in the foreseeable future. Not that this comes as a major surprise, mind you; The Sims 4 continues to orbit the neighborhood as one of the best-settling sandbox games of all time.

How Will Electronic Arts Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Sims?

To celebrate this latest milestone, Electronic Arts will, in fact, be releasing several new updates to highlight The Sims’ upcoming endeavors, with the first update, aptly titled Behind The Sims, expected to air on January 14, 2025. And that’s not all; Electronic Arts has also promised to bring even more commemorative content to the table, claiming that “there’s so much to look forward to in the coming months.” This could, of course, be referring to the upcoming DLC—an update that usually comes packaged within the Behind The Sims showcase. There could be a lot more than that, too, from the sounds of it. However, until either Maxis or Electronic Arts decide to shed light on the matter, we’ll have to sit idly by and wait for the next episode.
