What is Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon?

Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon is an upcoming action-adventure platformer starring the beloved comic book Gauls, Asterix and Obelix. It’s the latest video game installment in the long-running Asterix franchise. It marks a brand-new story not directly based on any existing comic tale. In this game, players will control the iconic duo on an original quest that stays true to the series’ trademark humor and cartoonish action. From what’s been revealed, Mission Babylon emphasizes combat and platforming challenges, all wrapped in a colorful art style that will delight fans of the comics.
For those who aren’t familiar, Asterix and Obelix are two famous characters from a popular French comic series. They are brave warriors from a small village that resists Roman rule using clever tricks and a magic potion that gives them super strength. Asterix is the quick and clever one, while Obelix is bigger and stronger. Together, they go on many adventures full of fun, fights, and laughs. The comics are loved worldwide for their humor.
Story

This time, the two heroes must take on a daring and challenging task in a distant eastern kingdom known as the Parthian Empire. The peaceful land faces grave danger from the Roman Emperor Caesar, who is determined to conquer it. To make matters worse, the Parthian king, Monipehni, has been poisoned. The evil sorcerer Bahmbuhzeli, working secretly alongside Caesar, brewed this deadly poison. The heroes’ task is clear: they need to find all the special ingredients scattered across strange and unfamiliar territories to create an antidote and save the king’s life.
However, their journey won’t be easy or straightforward. Along their path, they’ll come across tough Roman soldiers determined to block their way. Players can expect exciting fights, funny moments, and friendly encounters with locals who need their help. The heroes must cleverly navigate traps and obstacles, face new challenges, and explore enchanting eastern landscapes. With bravery, quick thinking, and a lot of humor, they’ll do everything in their power to protect this kingdom and defeat the Romans.
Gameplay

While we haven’t seen full gameplay footage yet, the details released so far paint an exciting picture of how Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon will play. The game is described as a platforming adventure packed with action and laughs. Players will run, jump, and brawl their way through various levels. Combat appears to be a central focus — you’ll be bashing Roman legionaries left and right, sending them flying in the cartoonish style that fans love. Each character likely brings unique abilities; Asterix might be quicker and nimbler, while Obelix packs extra strength.
Furthermore, one of the most exciting gameplay features is the local co-op mode. Two players can team up on the same screen, one controlling Asterix and the other Obelix, working together to overcome obstacles and enemies. The game is specifically designed around the duo’s complementary strengths, so expect unique co-op moves or tactics. For instance, Obelix could move heavy objects while Asterix squeezes into tight spaces. Playing with a friend will likely amplify the fun and chaos! as you coordinate punches and combos against Roman foes. Of course, you can still play solo; either the AI may handle the other character, or the game could allow you to switch between Asterix and Obelix on-the-fly, though exact details aren’t clear yet.
Beyond combat, exploration is another key aspect. The game offers multiple distinct regions to discover. In fact, Mission Babylon boasts four all-new worlds, each featuring a unique visual style, atmosphere, and gameplay mechanics tailored specifically to this adventure. Players will journey through over twenty levels scattered across these worlds. And let’s not forget the boss fights — formidable foes likely await at critical points in the story, promising climactic battles. All these epic confrontations are delivered alongside a healthy dose of the franchise’s famous humor.
Development

Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon is developed by Balio Studio and published by Microids. Microids is a well-known French company that specializes in games based on popular comics and cartoons. The developer, Balio Studio, might be a new name to some gamers, but they’ve got experience creating family-friendly and cartoon-themed games. Previously, Balio Studio has worked on games like Garfield: Lasagna Party and The Smurfs – Village Party, so they are no strangers to bringing animated characters to life in interactive form. Mission Babylon is their first Asterix project, and it’s arguably a step up in scale and action.
