5 Games like Steel Rising

If you’re a fan of video games and robots, then you’ll love Steel Rising. The game comes from renowned gaming company Spiders, essentially a retelling of the famous French Revolution with a robotic twist. King Louis XVI does not have a gallant knighthood at his disposal. Instead of people, he is in command of an army of deadly androids. The fate of France lies in the hands of Aegis, Marie Antoinette’s android bodyguard. Aegis is on a quest to find the android’s creator and kill it to end the robot revolution. This action-packed page is great for keeping you engaged, and there are five others with just the same vibe you could play.

5. Bloodborne

Sony Entertainment developed this 2015 game for PlayStation 4, and it follows Hunter through the gothic, post-apocalyptic city of Yharnam. The world is a Victorian-Lovecraft-like theme. The character has to battle inhabitants who suffer from a blood-borne disease, cosmic beings, unhinged beasts, and other things to find the plague’s source. The game is like Steel Rising in that the character has a specific end goal, and they must work through numerous obstacles to get to it. Players play the game in third person, and they can choose from various weapons and tactical combat to win fights and battles. The game has received critical acclaim and boasts a mind-blowing difficulty level, high-quality sound design, and a connected world design.

4. Dark Souls III

From Software made this game in 2016. This action-packed game is played on  PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the fourth installment of the Dark Souls trilogy, and, like Steel Rising, players can play it in a third-person perspective. The game world is in Lothric, a fictional kingdom where a warning bell has been rung to signify the death of the Age of Fire. The incoming Age of Dark comes with the undead, and certain lords sacrifice themselves to rekindle the fire and stop the undead. The aim is to get Prince Lothric to accept his fate and link to the First Flame. Players can use an array of weapons, including bows, swords, and shields. A pleasant surprise is that players can use magic to battle some of the adversaries.

3. Elden Ring

Well, fans of Games of Thrones and Epic-type games got one of their own when FromSoftware developed Elden Ring in 2022. A creative partnership between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin. The game is for PlayStation 4 and 5, Windows, and the Xbox Series. The game follows the character, played in third person perspective, through the Lands Between in their quest to collect the pieces of the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord. Unfortunately, Lands Between is a fictional land run by demigods, each of whom has a piece of the ring. The ring was once whole and held by Queen Marika, but after the shattering, her demigod children took up pieces and divided the kingdom. 

The player plays as the Tarnished, a member of an exiled group. The character receives a summon for the Fellowship of the Ring. In addition, they get to ride Torrent, a strong mount that can travel fast. In their quest, they have to battle undead monsters, demigods, dragons, and other enemies. On the other hand, instead of using combat skills, players can use a Sacred Seal or staff to perform spells. At a Site of Grace, you can assess your strength and statistics so far, upgrade your armory, and change spells. The option to have a multiplayer or a player versus player setting is also available.

2. Asterigos: Curse of the Stars

This game will be released in the fall of 2022 and is another historical story, albeit a fantasy. Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is an action RPG from Acme Game Studios for PlayStation 4, 5, and Xbox One. This single-player game follows Hilda, a Northwind Legion warrior looking for her father. In her quest, she stumbles upon Aphes, a mythical but cursed city with a tragic past.  The city of Aphes was once a treasure trove, and unfortunately, outsiders sought it out. To keep these invaders at bay, the city’s inhabitants destroy the bridge, and beasts of the Outer Rim eat the invaders. 

Those who survive the beasts fall prey to a curse. Hilda is present as history is rewritten, and she makes some decisions that could make or break the kingdom. She also has to fight an army of cursed monsters, and fortunately, she arms herself with the power of the gods. Hilda arms herself with a sword and a shield to fight the beasts and gain victory. Each time she wins a battle, she levels up her skill set and obtains attributes and talent points. Sadly, the downside to this game is that you cannot play it in multiplayer mode.

1. Assassin’s Creed Unity

Another take on the French Revolution is Assassin’s Creed Unity, which Ubisoft Montreal developed in 2014 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. There were reports of bugs from its launch that hindered proper gameplay, but the patched version is worth checking out. The eighth installment in the Assasins’ Creed series, the game’s world is set in the French Revolution of 1789–1744. The game follows Arno Dorian, an assassin who is on a quest to expose the main agenda of the revolution and find his adoptive father’s killer. In true Assassin’s Creed fashion, the game is in the third person perspective. The player has parkour, combat, and stealth skills to help fight his adversaries, especially the Templars behind his father’s death. 

The player comes across famous historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte throughout the game. As Arno, you must use your skills, enlist the help of the Brotherhood, and entrust Elise, your love interest, to their care, as the nation’s fate depends on it. Players can choose a single character or multiplayer mode to play the game.
