Will Fable Release in 2025?

Ever since Playground Games first began its journey to rekindle Lionhead Studios’ ever-popular Fable series for a modernized wick, the project hasn’t really left the ground or so much as popped its head up to reveal any major details or developmental milestones, thus sparking some level of speculation about its fate and, in some respects, its loose Q4 2025 launch window — which is still the most plausible scenario, according to several industry insiders. The question is, will Fable finally break free from its shell in time for the upcoming festive period, or will it retract its decision to make room for an imminent delay in due course? The question that’s on our minds is this: Will Fable release in 2025?

According to Playground Games, Fable will be gearing up for a full launch on Xbox Series X|S in 2025. As for when in 2025 it will launch is another story, though, from the recent announcement made during the Xbox Showcase last year—a preview that lifted the veil on several new features, including an appearance from none other than Matt King—it seems as if the next chapter in the series could very well be nearing the latter half of its development cycle. Granted, we’ve yet to see any major gameplay details, but according to the team behind it, it will accommodate “high quality, crafting, and attention to detail.” It’s just a shame, then, that we haven’t seen much of this in action since the game’s initial announcement back in 2018.

Given Playground Games’ amicable commitment to creating award-winning IP, a seven-year development phase isn’t exactly out of the ordinary in this case. Still, with a significant lack of content to show for its near-decade endeavor, it’s fair to wonder whether or not it will finally remove its head from the sand at all, or if Fable truly is a myth rather than the storybook revival we’ve been craving since 2012. Nevertheless, here’s hoping we see more of it later this year.
