VG Entertainment on Forest Reigns – Interview Series

VG Entertainment, a Ukraine-based gaming studio with seventeen years of experience in creating, brandishing, and producing video games, has lifted the veil on its latest project—a survival first-person shooter that will reportedly transport players to a post-apocalyptic Paris teeming with exploration, survival, and role-playing elements. The game, aptly titled Forest Reigns, is currently due to launch on PC via Steam on an undisclosed date.

In an effort to learn more about Forest Reigns and its current status, I recently caught up with the team at VG Entertainment.

You’ve recently mentioned in a press release that VG Entertainment will be going “back to its roots” after years of multiplayer production. Would you mind telling us more about this shift in fields, as well as what you’re aiming to achieve with your next game, Forest Reigns?

We began our way in game dev in the 2000s, with developing story-driven single-player games, so for us, this is a return to this first concept. Though other of our projects were multiplayer, we believe there’s a lack of engaging single-player games today. 

So, Forest Reigns is planned to be thrilling, beautiful, fun, and challenging single-player. More details can be found in the game’s description on Steam.

Let’s talk a bit more about the details surrounding Forest Reigns’ inception. You’ve stated that the game will stem from the “most daring concept” you’ve ever explored — and that has certainly caught our attention. Could you tell us how Forest Reigns will differ from your previous work?

What truly sets Forest Reigns apart is its interactive environment which acts as a key character. This is a living and breathing world that constantly evolves.

And on top of that, we have a bunch of other elements that add up to the experience – strong FPS, a twisted story, RPG elements, survival and crafting, crowned by Paris as a location to explore. 

We’re eager to learn more about the storyline and how this post-apocalyptic world came to be. Please could you shed some light on these two things? What has brought Paris to its downfall, and how exactly do we fit into it?

Much of it will be uncovered in the game, and we want to avoid spoilers. So let’s keep this part under wraps for now.

Let’s segue this conversation into the gameplay aspects; specifically, the challenges and environmental curveballs that will feature in Forest Reigns. Tell us, what sorts of trials await us in this twisted world of agricultural ruin?

The Forest can be both an ally and an enemy, so the key is learning how to interact with it and adapt. In our game, it’s not just the environment around you to avoid or navigate. Once you learn how to use the Forest to your advantage, your chances to succeed increase dramatically. 

Also, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world presents its own set of challenges. You’ll need to adapt your playstyle to various situations, using stealth when necessary or engaging in open combat when the moment calls for it. The game encourages a mixed playstyle, making the whole process thrilling.

You will deal with natural and human adversaries as you freely explore a reimagined Paris. It will be possible to go where you want and do what you want unless you can stay alive. 

Along the way, you’ll face tough decisions that will shape the outcome of the story. Expect unexpected plot twists to keep you fully immersed in the experience.

Tell us more about the crafting system. Presumably, the act of building equipment will be a fundamental part of our journey. Care to tell us more about the tools and other items that we’ll be able to salvage and/or build?

Sure, you’ll be able to craft weapons, medical supplies, and other items (which we’ll reveal later), as well as repair or upgrade your gear. 

Materials can be gathered through purchases or looting, and special crafting stations will be used to transform these into useful things.

Would you mind sharing a few tips and tricks on how to survive this post-apocalyptic endeavor? Is there anything we ought to know before embarking on our journey?

We’ll share more of these closer to the game release, there will definitely be some.
