Imagine a game where time itself has shattered. Entire eras have collapsed into a tangled mess, and reality is no longer stable. One moment you’re in a medieval era, and the next you’re running through a futuristic city – all within the same mission. This is the chaotic playground of Out of Time, a co-op roguelike where every run throws you into collapsing timelines packed with fast-paced action.

It’s the kind of game that’s built to keep you hooked with intense runs, creative gear loadouts, and rewards that push you to dive back in. Here, we’ll look at its story, gameplay, trailer, release date, platforms, and the team making it happen – basically, everything that makes Out of Time one of the most intriguing upcoming multiplayer games.

What is Out of Time?

Out of Time is a multiplayer roguelike action game where up to four players team up to survive in collapsing timelines. The game mixes the replayable runs of a roguelike with the teamwork and coordination of co-op action games. Each run drops players into a chaotic space where past, present, and future collide after an event called The Shattering. Your goal is simple – fight through unstable timelines, survive the onslaught, and return stronger for the next run.

The concept is unique because it blends multiple eras into a single action experience. Players battle in shifting environments where medieval castles, modern cities, and futuristic wastelands exist side by side. Additionally, the game uses a gear-focused system that lets players create their own approach to combat. Weapons and gadgets define how you fight, whether you focus on damage, support, or defense. Together, these ideas make Out of Time stands out for its timeline-shifting battles and creative team strategies.

Story

Out of Time takes place after a catastrophic event known as The Shattering, which caused the past, present, and future to collide into one chaotic reality. This disaster left the world in a tangled state, where overlapping timelines have created an unpredictable battleground. Danger can appear from any era, making survival a challenge for all of humanity.

In this fractured world, Infinitopia serves as the last safe haven for survivors. People from different eras gather here to protect what remains of civilization. To keep it safe, survivors must head into unstable regions where timelines have collapsed and deadly threats await. These threats include dragons, warped beasts, killer robots, and mutant crabs, all appearing together because of the broken flow of time. Humanity’s mission is to push back the chaos and reclaim reality.

Gameplay

Although Out of Time isn’t out yet, what we know so far paints a picture of fast, chaotic gameplay with a strong emphasis on teamwork. Up to four players will be able to choose from multiple characters to take on missions in collapsing timelines, where danger can appear from any era. Each run will be packed with action-focused encounters, and every mission will be a chance to collect rewards, improve loadouts, and prepare for the next challenge.

Where Out of Time really differentiates itself is in its character building. There are no traditional classes in this game – instead, your gear defines your role. You can mix and match any combination of equipment to suit your playstyle, without rigid limits. Gear will range from powerful weapons to supportive tools, and every combination will change how a team handles battles. So, this system will let players experiment with different setups to survive unpredictable encounters.

Furthermore, the Tether System will reward squads for staying close, providing shared buffs, healing, and stat boosts. Staying together and combining abilities effectively will be important for clearing missions, surviving enemy waves, and progressing through the collapsing timelines as a team.

Moreover, the action will remain varied thanks to shifting environments and diverse enemy threats. Dragons, killer robots, and mutant creatures can appear in the same mission, forcing squads to adapt their tactics and use gear creatively. The developers have also hinted at seasonal content, leaderboards, and even PvP modes coming post-launch. So, on top of the core co-op roguelike gameplay, there will be competitive and ongoing elements to keep players engaged long-term.

Out of Time is being crafted by Manticore Games, the San Mateo studio best known for building the Core platform for user-generated games. The team has been clear about their vision for this project and how they want it to stand out.

“With Out of Time, we wanted to create a wholly unique and original experience that combines my favorite gameplay mechanics: the best aspects of roguelike, real time multiplayer, and MMO raids,” said Jordan Maynard, Chief Creative Officer at Manticore Games. CEO Frederic Descamps added, “Manticore’s mission is to create complex immersive multiplayer experiences. We’ve built Out of Time as a massively expandable dynamic universe using the Core [user-generated content] platform and Unreal. We’re already planning more eras and [player-versus-player] modes, plus additional platforms.”
