On Your Tail: Everything We Know

If you’re feeling the need to delve into the beating heart of a vibrant community and become one with a colorful world, then you’ll be pleased to know that Memorable Games is chalking up something that’ll tick all the right boxes. Aptly titled On Your Tail, the studio’s upcoming game will aim to conjure a “sleuthy story-driven 3D life sim of relaxation, investigation, and knowing how to play your cards right.”

So, with the introductory spiel out in the open, what more do you need to know about the upcoming adventure? Well, here’s everything we’ve been able to scrape together on the project since the team first lifted the veil earlier this week. Let’s jump right in.

What Is On Your Tail?

Humble Games and Memorable Games' On Your Tail is a sprightly new story-driven adventure game in which players will take on the role of feline explorer Diana, “in her pursuit of the perfect summer vacation.” The game, which will feature an open world setting, will allow players to explore vibrant communities, tackle local issues, and help breathe life into an idyllic town that’s bursting with character and culture.

According to the devs, On Your Tail will also feature a card game—a local pastime that the citizens of Borgo Marina appear to love and cherish. As a newcomer to the town, you will have the opportunity to immerse in said activity, as well as all the things that make the world the bastion of pride and joy that it is. So, if you’re after a drawn-out adventure that’ll keep you clocking hours for days, weeks, and perhaps even months on end, then look no further than Borgo Marina, basically.

Story

The story will follow Diana, a curious adventurer who has set out to find the perfect summer getaway spot. Arriving in the Italian town of Borgo Marina, Diana will have the opportunity to soak up the local culture, and become one with the locals over the course of the summer months. As a traditional life simulation game, players will have the chance to spend each day as they see fit, whether it’s gazing up at the stars, building lifelong friendships with the local townies, or unraveling a series of mysteries that have yet to locate their conclusive answers.

“Set in the charming seaside village of Borgo Marina, On Your Tail follows the adventures of intrepid Diana in her pursuit of the perfect summer vacation,” reads the elevator pitch. “For a curious spirit like her, that means three things: explore her new surroundings as she gets to know the eccentric inhabitants, unwind with some of the area’s iconic recreational activities, and get to the bottom of some of Borgo Marina’s most puzzling local mysteries.”

Gameplay

Publisher Humble Games and developer Memorable Games have described On Your Tail as a life simulation game, which means there’ll be copious amounts of local activities to connect with, conversations to soak up, and hidden landmarks to explore. Sure enough, it’s a life simulation game at heart, so there’ll be plenty to bite into from the looks of it. It’s also a “story-driven” game, apparently, which means you can also expect a slew of quests and extracurricular activities and seasonal events, too.

“Explore a beautiful Italian town by the sea, lovingly built from the ground up by the Italy-based development team at Memorable Games, and shape aspiring detective Diana’s summer in a third-person 3D narrative adventure,” the description reads in part.  “Discover secrets big and small hiding behind Borgo Marina’s idyllic exterior. Search the village’s streets and shops for leads, and collect clues on characters\, locations, and events to help unmask the thief who’s menacing the once-peaceful town.”

In addition to the town’s secrets, On Your Tail will also provide numerous opportunities to cook local cuisines, fish out at the docks, and try your luck at the arcades for high scores and exclusive perks. In other words, “Borgo Marina is a leisurely sandbox, and how you spend your summer is up to you.”

Development

In case you missed the announcement earlier this week, the game is being developed by Memorable Games, a studio best known for its previous works as MixedBag—an Italy-based firm that built the likes of Waking Violet, and forma.8. Since making the formal announcement, the team has released a slew of in-game screenshots and a trailer. If all goes according to plan, then On Your Tail should release on Switch and PC at some stage in 2024.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

On Your Tail will be launching on Switch and PC at some point in 2024. As for whether or not it’ll find its way over to Xbox and PlayStation in the future is unclear. That said, as we’re still a fair ways off from seeing its arrival, there’s still a good chance that the devs will shed light on the matter in the coming months. Until then, it’s really anybody’s guess.

As far as launch editions go, On Your Tail will only release with the one standard copy. You can go ahead and add that to your wishlist over on Steam here.
