Google Stadia Is Shutting Down on January 18th

Google Stadia will be shutting its doors for good on January 18, 2023 at 11:59pm PT.

It comes as no major surprise at this point, but for a select few gamers (Google Stadia users, to be precise), January 18th will be a rather dark day, thanks to the platform finally deciding to shut its doors after a questionably short run as the industry's undisputed underdogs.

In case you missed it, Google made the decision back in September 2022 to cease production of its Stadia platform and all its games. To cut a long story short, fans weren't all that surprised by this decision, mostly due to the fact that the Stadia, in spite of its ambition, never really found a leg to stand on. And it's because of this, that Google just couldn't fathom spending any more time trying to get it off the ground—hence the abrupt choice to burn its bridges.

Stadia Has Left the Building

Anyway, as it turns out, Google will be closing down the entire Stadia domain on January 18th at 11:59pm PT. From this point, Stadia users will no longer be able to access any of the games in their libraries, or even purchase any new material, for that matter.

There is a silver lining to this, though, and that's that current Stadia users will, in fact, receive full refunds for the games they've already purchased since the Stadia went live. And so, if you happen to be one of the few surviving Stadia users and haven't been paid out by Google yet, then you may want to keep a firm eye on your mail accounts over the coming week or so.

So, what's your take? Are you sad to see the Google Stadia platform shut down for good? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
