Forza Horizon 6: Everything We Know

Forza Horizon 6 Promotional Art

Well, you might as well scratch the hopes of getting your hands on the latest chapter in the Fable series from your bingo card. The good news is that it’s still on the cards. The bad news is that Playground Games—the team behind the next segment in the ex-Lionhead Studios saga—is pouring its heart and soul into another, slightly more comfortable pair of shoes. And yes, it is ForzaBut this isn’t any ol’ Forza; it’s Forza Horizon 6, which is arguably one of the most sought-after sequels in recent years. There’s good news and bad news, then. Sorry, Fable fans.

Although our chances of embarking on the next noble quests across Albion this year are slim to nonexistent, there is a silver lining here: Forza Horizon 6 is but a hop, skip, and a drag race away from launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It won’t launch for a short while yet, but on the bright side, it will launch on Game Pass. That’s a huge plus in itself, and something that ought to appeal to those with a subscription to either the PC or Xbox service.

What Is Forza Horizon 6?

Forza Horizon 6 marks the sixth mainline entry in Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios’ open-world spin-off racing series, which acts as its own inclusive, slightly more eccentric platform adjacent to its Forza Motorsport series. The game, which is known for its iron roots in Xbox and PC, will be launching exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and will be available to play at launch via Game Pass.

Story

Forza Horizon 6 has taken us across the globe in its five previous installments, including Britain, Mexico, Australia, and Italy. However, the sixth iteration of the series will transport us elsewhere—to the cherry blossom-smothered utopia of Japan, where the next map-trotting tournament will commence on a sizable island with numerous thematic elements.

Horizon, as a series, has been known for adopting a simple narrative style—a formula that, true to the spirit of open-world racing games, allows players the opportunity to develop and foster their own liveries and explore an enormous variety of races, be it drag, drift, or rallying. The sixth chapter in the series will more or less follow the same theme, with its map offering countless challenges to navigate, speed traps to master, and a multitude of seasonal events and multiplayer leaderboards to conquer.

“For a long time, Japan has been top of Horizon fans’ wish lists, so we’re excited to finally be bringing this much-requested location to players in Forza Horizon 6,” Playground Games’ Art Director Don Arceta told Xbox Wire. “Japan has such a unique culture – from cars, to music, to fashion – that make it perfect for the next Horizon setting. As with any Horizon title, we want to make sure we do the country justice in terms of authentic representation and Horizon open world playability – and now is the right time to realize that fully for players.”

Gameplay

While the gameplay details for Forza Horizon 6 are still somewhat scarce, Playground Games has been able to shed some light on the setting and several of the keystone features that’ll be implemented in the Japanese chapter.

“While we’re not announcing too much in terms of detail right now, we’re excited to show fans the true breadth of beauty – both natural and urban environments – that Japan has to offer,” Arceta continued. “From the neon lights and towering buildings of Tokyo City – one of our most detailed and layered environments to date – to the serenity and natural beauty of Japan’s rural and mountain areas, we think players will be blown away by the open world of Japan that we have built.”

“And while we are not necessarily trying to recreate Japan and its environments like for like, our goal has always been to capture the country’s unique cultural essence and present it back in the most Horizon way possible.”

With all of the above information ripe for the taking, it does seem that the next leg of the journey will feature a lot of the same signature career-based elements as its predecessors, with added online functionality there to bolster the experience via custom liveries and global scoreboards and what have you. As for whether or not Japan will be larger than Mexico is another question. Either way, Horizon 5 left some pretty big boots to fill, so we’ll have to wait and see before answering that one.

Development

Forza Horizon 6 was announced in late September during the Tokyo Game Show 2025, at which point both Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games lifted the veil on the project by showcasing a short teaser trailer depicting a webbing of registration plates and the grand reveal of a Japanese postcard. But, more on that shortly.

At the time of writing, Forza Horizon 6 doesn’t have a formal release date. That said, we do know that it will be looking to shed its Xbox and PC exclusivity in order to make room for a PlayStation 5 version in the future. Here’s hoping that, with a pinch of luck, we’ll be seeing a release date announcement in the coming months.

Yes, there is a trailer for Forza Horizon 6, albeit a short one that, frankly, doesn’t touch base on much outside of its chosen setting. It’s early days yet, so whilst we can prep for a tour across Japan, we won’t be able to comb over the finer details until a little further down the road. With any luck, we’ll have the opportunity to take another glimpse at the sixth chapter in the series in early 2026.

Release Dates & Platforms

Forza Horizon 6 will be gearing up to launch across Xbox Series X|S and PC at some point in 2026, with a PlayStation 5 version scheduled to release at a later date. Of course, that’s bad news for Nintendo fans. That said, as Forza is known for its connection with Microsoft, an exclusive branding doesn’t exactly come as too much of a surprise here. Still, you never know, eh? Personally, I wouldn’t cross my fingers if it’s a Switch port that you’re hoping to get your hands on.
