C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield — Everything We Know

The trading card gaming sphere still feels like an untapped market with huge potential. For decades, game boards have been the norm. Now, the digital front is just starting to pick up pace. We’ve seen it with Yu-Gi-Oh!, a highly competitive franchise that’s been around since the late ‘90s. Thanks to the release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel (2022) in digital form, the franchise is cultivating a steadily growing fanbase. 

But we simply want more trading card games on the market with solid deckbuilding mechanics that captivate. On that front, developer Acquire is seeking to change the narrative for the better. Here’s everything we know about their newly announced game, C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield.

What is C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield?

C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield is an upcoming roguelike deck builder currently in development by Japanese developer Acquire. The game promises to be a game changer in the genre and the gaming sphere as a whole. While still in its early stages, fans’ expectations are rising to peak levels, but seeing as the game is already out on the Steam store page, it’s a good sign for more engagement updates to come.

Story

At the moment, we don’t have any details on the story. All the Steam page says is:

ACQUIRE is developing its first roguelike deckbuilding game! The Steam store page will be updated in mid-November.

Gameplay

So far, we only have the screenshots in the gallery section of the game’s Steam store page. They reveal quite a lot of what to expect, including skill points, card selection, and action sequences.

The screenshots reveal players taking turns to draw cards. You’ll have a maximum of three turns to play per round. Each card will likely have distinct abilities, possibly correlating with your chosen player.

As the game is called “C.A.R.D.S. RPG…,” players will likely role-play various characters. In the screenshots, we see different characters wielding swords and shields on a “misty” battlefield. We also see health points to keep track of the winning side. 

One of the screenshots shows a flashy sword attack against the opponent. Overall, we can presume some exciting gameplay, with more concrete details hopefully coming your way soon.

Development

Japanese developer Acquire has recently announced that they will be working on the upcoming roguelike deck builder, C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield. The game’s Steam store page reveals that Acquire will also be publishing the game. 

Development seems to still be in the early stages. At the moment, we have sneak peeks at the kind of visuals and gameplay we can expect via screenshots on Steam. However, we don’t have any video trailers whatsoever, leading us to believe that development is still in the concept art stages.

Moreover, with the first screenshots out in the world, expectations are starting to build up for more updates, which, according to the Steam page, Acquire has promised to release in mid-November. With the genre tagline of a roguelike deck builder, we certainly cannot wait to see what this exciting addition brings to the table.

Developer Acquire has yet to release a reveal trailer for the new game. However, if you’d like to get a sneak peek, you can check out the pre-release gameplay screenshots on Steam in the gallery section. They don’t reveal much, but they do give you a visual idea of the types of cards, characters, action sequences, villains, and overall lore you can expect. 

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Acquire has yet to announce a release date for the new game. So, we don’t know when we might expect C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield to hit stores. Neither can we approximate, as the announcement for development only came out recently. 

We do know that Acquire plans to launch the game exclusively on PC platforms via Steam. Steam has already put up a page for the new game here, with a “coming soon” update on the release date. Feel free to add the game to your Steam wishlist to get a notification as soon as the game is available for download.

As of now, we don’t know of any editions you can expect to pre-order. There’s plenty we don’t know. However, for anyone hungry for more concrete details, the Steam page reassures fans that they will update the page with future updates streaming in from mid-November.
