Blood Bowl 3: All Teams

Blood Bowl isn’t the new kid in town – far from it! He’s the not-so-friendly neighbor we’ve known for ages. The one not to be messed with, we know, has secrets up his sleeve, yet we’ve come to love and embrace him as part of us. Okay. Maybe that analogy has escaped me, but essentially, Blood Bowl is an unconventional fantasy football game where no rules apply. Well, except for the basic “touchdown” ones, where teams are drawn from the Warhammer universe. It features elves, dwarfs, orcs, humans, goblins, and more, pacing across the football field, tackling down the opposing team, and leaving blood and bruises in their wake.

Once a beloved board game, Blood Bowl is now transformed into an up-to-date video game, with Blood Bowl 3 being the latest installment in the series. The nicest guy won’t survive here. Rather, the most violent, ruthless Warhammer team to infuse their battling spirits with strategy and teamwork takes the win. So, which team will execute the most humiliating kills while scoring the most points to take the cup home? Which ones are the weaker species you need to stay clear of? Let’s find out in today’s Blood Bowl 3: all teams, ranked article.

12. Old World Alliance

Old World Alliance Guide: Lineups, skills and tips! (Blood Bowl 3)

Old World Alliance is an opportunity to play with a mixed team, so you have the best of all worlds. Gamers combine humans, dwarves, halflings, and more to create the most optimized Warhammer universe team possible.

Mixing teams is fun and all. But, ultimately, it alleviates the cons of each species, so much so, that it becomes untenable for some. Does a variety of players matter most to you? Or, would you rather avoid the almost-guaranteed clash of clans to come?

11. Humans

Blood Bowl 3 Official Race Guide: Humans

Good ol’ humans, are they worth betting on? This is a definite step away from bashing to more tactical gameplay. There’s definitely more skill involved while throwing or catching the ball. Of course, compared to other mutated teams, or ones with special abilities like the Orcs, it’ll be harder to get past them, especially a team like Orcs that equally infuse tactical gameplay. Picking Humans would have to be on a test run if only to see just how good the team is.

10. Elven Union

Elven Union is pretty great for scoring faster than other teams. All thanks to the catchers who’re lighter on their feet. Plus, the elves are considerably cheaper. However, they do have expensive teammates, so it’ll have to be a trade-off to think hard about.

9. Dwarfs

Blood Bowl 3: Official Race Guide - Dwarves

It’s easy to assume that dwarfs are a poor choice. Granted, they’re pretty slow and clumsy. At the start, the dwarfs offer great blocking. However, as you progress, it gets more difficult to do so, often seeming unfair when they’re behind other teams in skill. Plus, the enhanced armor and thick skull get boggy. It’s the kind of team to take on if you’re looking to challenge yourself with a highly satisfying pay-off.

8. Dark Elves

Dark Elves are a great pick when you’re just starting out, thanks to their high stats and core skills. In fact, most gamers tend to gravitate more toward them when starting out. They have a good track record with pros like agility and witch elves on their team. Also, the Dark Elves are perhaps the most challenging team to play, focusing more on running the ball than passing it to other members. However, they do start with four blitzes and higher armor once you progress.

7. Chaos Chosen

Blood Bowl 3 Official Race Guide: Chaos Chosen, by AndyDavo

There’s a reason why the Chaos Chosen are also called “Slaves to Darkness,” because they don't shy away from unleashing ruin in the world and on the field. Most of all, they’re headhunters with the freedom to interchange each beast-man’s head. The result is a field of horn aberrations that amplifies your strength while blitzing on the field.

Unfortunately, Chaos Chosen rarely wins games. But, if you’re still hyped by the myriad mutative killer ways you could unleash chaos on your opponent, feel free to take Chaos Chosen out for a spin. Just remember not to get carried away and actually aim to score some touchdowns, too.

6. Nurgle

Nurgle Blood Bowl 3: Official race guide

Nurgle is perhaps the most ghastly-looking team in Blood Bowl 3. If you can believe it, their foul tentacles actually help them grab and tie up opponents. Since it’s pretty hard to evade them, Nurgle’s shut down the party so fast, especially the more agile teams.

With their pus-covered selves, and mutations beyond compare, Nurgles aren’t afraid to look a little horrid, to make you sick to your stomach, but at least you’ll have won, right?

5. Chaos Renegade

Chaos Renegades: Blood Bowl 3 Official Race Guide

Chaos Renegade are cousins to Chaos Chosen; their difference is that Chaos Renegades have up to three or four different big guy players. Again, it’s a team with lots of bashing strength capable of breaking all hell loose on the field. However, they really are a weaker choice if your goal is to score as many touchdowns as possible. This one’s more of a “good time” sake pick, if you will.

4. Imperial Nobility

Blood Bowl 3 Race Guide: Imperial Nobility

The Imperial Nobility team is more versatile compared to the rest, which, in turn, makes room for fun on the field. Their combination of skills alone can get you dancing over the variety of ideas you could try without your opponent ever seeing them coming.

Rather than merely punching your way through to touchdowns (“hint, hint” at the Black Orcs), the Imperial Nobility have four differently skilled types: the linemen, the bodyguards, the noble blitzers, and the imperial throwers.

Bodyguards and linemen protect your noble blitzers and imperial throwers. Once you have a clear line of sight, they come in and score touchdowns. Even though the Imperial Nobility look closer to humans, let that not fool you of their abilities to cause chaos on the field, thanks to their pretty mischievous nature against anyone that chooses to play against them.

3. Skaven

Blood Bowl 3: Official Team Guide - Skaven

Skaven are known for their speed and viciousness. These translate to unmatched mobility and violence on the field. They have a proven track record, making them more reliable to place your bet on. It’s almost like the best of both worlds: mindless violence meets verminous speed. Oh, they’ve also won two consecutive Blood Bowl championships, so there’s at least a legendary series of past tournaments.

2. Black Orcs

Blood Bowl 3 Race Guide: Black Orcs

These are the humongous beasts you’ve likely seen in most Blood Bowl 3 posters. They’re not the easiest team in the eyes, but they more than makeup for it with intimidation and respect. Oh, and you can customize them, too, with varied colored skins.

Because of their size, Black Orcs are slower-paced. However, you’re free to use the little ones called goblins to run the ball much faster. Then, use the more massive Black Orcs to run down the opponents, crashing them under your feet.

Once you’ve positioned the bigger guys at the front lines, they’ll help clear the way for the goblins so they get close enough to make the run for a touchdown. This play is more geared toward gory violence, which is what Blood Bowl 3 is here for anyway.

1. Orcs

Blood Bowl 3 Official Race Guide: Orcs

There’s no Blood Bowl without the Orcs. Admittedly, choosing between the Black Orcs and the Orcs can be a little tricky, but the Orcs are definitely a better team to go with here. First, Black Orcs tend to have rampant animosity, often becoming pretty “stunty” on the field. But animosity is not an issue for the Orcs at all.

Also, since Black Orcs are a different breed, altogether, with essentially six big guys fighting against the opposing team (because their goblins are too weak), they often get hampered by their size and thus lean a little more on the slow side. Sure, Black Orcs are the biggest and strongest of all Orcs. However, normal Orcs get the ball moving.

So, you’ll need to make the choice between having a lot of fun, albeit putting in more work, over a more rounded, balanced, and, therefore, easier for any player to start with, team. Particularly for a new player, the Orcs’ starting skills would favor them more. Plus, Orcs offer more leeway for getting away with a couple of mistakes.
