Ubisoft Delays Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Newly Unannounced Game
It looks that Ubisoft's upcoming Avatar game, Frontiers of Pandora, will not be released concurrently with the film's second sequel, The Way of the Water, which is scheduled for December 16, 2022. That was Ubisoft's intention when they revealed the game at E3 2021, but according to their most recent quarterly briefing, this will not be the case. Instead, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is now slated for a 2023-2024 release date.
Ubisoft had this to say in light of the decision: “We are committed to delivering a cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advantage of next-gen technology, as this amazing global entertainment brand represents a major multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft”. Where not exactly sure what that entails, however, it's safe to assume for us a more refined and long-standing Avatar game, and for Ubisoft, more money.
Unannounced New Game
Of course, Ubisoft couldn't get away with their briefing without hinting at a new unannounced game. “We also decided to release in 2023-24 a smaller unannounced premium game, originally slated for 2022-23,” the publisher noted in their briefing. We can't tell you any specifics about the game because it's currently “unannounced.” But keep an eye on our page, since we'll be covering any new information as soon as it becomes available.
Ubisoft followed up the reasoning for the delay of Avatars: Frontier of Pandora and their newly “unannounced” game with this remark, “While this additional development time is a reflection of the current ongoing constraints on productions across the industry, we are hard at work to design the most efficient working conditions to ensure both flexibilities for our teams as well as strong productivity while delivering the best experiences to players.”
More information will most likely be released at the next Ubisoft Forward showcase on September 10th. As that is Ubisoft's opportunity to share updates and news about new games and projects from their team. Hopefully, by then, we'll have a more specific release date and more information on both games.
