Ubisoft Sunsets Rainbow Six Mobile, Game Available Until January 2027
Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Mobile development team announced on October 8, 2026 that it has decided to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile, the free-to-play tactical shooter launched worldwide on February 23, 2026. The game will remain available until January 15, 2027, and the next season will be released as planned in the week following the announcement, the team said in a message posted to the game’s official news hub.
“There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile,” the team wrote in the message, which is signed The Rainbow Six Mobile Dev Team.
The message said players had helped shape the game since its soft launch in 2023, growing a worldwide community across 15 seasons. It thanked players for the memes, videos, strategies, tournaments, and “impossible plays” produced along the way, and said the team was proud of what it had built with the community. The developers said they will move on to other long-term strategic projects.
The 2022 Reveal
Ubisoft first announced Rainbow Six Mobile on April 5, 2022, in a Ubisoft News interview with creative director Justin Swan, presenting it as a free-to-play adaptation of Rainbow Six Siege for iOS and Android. At reveal, the game featured cross-play between iOS and Android, voice chat alongside a single-tap ping system, and 5v5 matches across maps including Border and Bank, with modes including Bomb and Secure Area. Players could break through destructible walls or reinforce them, customize weapons and loadouts, and deploy Operator gadgets.
Swan described several deliberate departures from Siege in that interview. Time-to-kill ran about 50% longer than in Siege, down-but-not-out was guaranteed in every match, weapon recoil was reduced, and an aim-assist system helped players hit small targets such as drones on a touchscreen, he said. Operator progression was horizontal rather than vertical power growth, with each Operator able to equip three perks.
“There’s a reason it’s not called Rainbow Six Siege Mobile; it’s called Rainbow Six Mobile, because it is the mobile representation of the entire Rainbow Six brand,” Swan said.
The Road to Worldwide Launch
On December 16, 2025, the team confirmed the worldwide launch date of February 23, 2026, recounting a development path that ran from the 2022 announcement through a Closed Alpha, Closed Betas 1 and 2 across multiple territories, a soft launch in which systems were overhauled and performance optimized, and final technical and engagement tests. The confirmation was paired with a pre-registration campaign that unlocked rewards as sign-up milestones were reached.
A launch-day post declared the game officially live worldwide and listed the release feature set: 5v5 attacker-versus-defender multiplayer, Operators with unique gadgets and playstyles, maps reworked and optimized for mobile devices, modes including Ranked and Team Deathmatch, Operator progression and customization with seasonal content, and controls built specifically for mobile platforms. The team said at launch that it was committed to ongoing support, including new Operators, maps, modes, features, and improvements.
The Game and Its 2026 Seasons
Ubisoft’s official game page describes Rainbow Six Mobile as a free-to-play competitive multiplayer first-person shooter designed exclusively for mobile, built around Attack vs. Defense 5v5 matches with destructible environments and distributed through the App Store and Google Play. Its map list adapts Rainbow Six Siege locations: Bank, Border, Clubhouse, Oregon, Summit, Villa, and House. The Operator roster shown on the page includes attackers Ash, Sledge, Thermite, Hibana, Deimos, and Zofia, and defenders Caveira, Bandit, Jäger, Mira, and Wamai.
The game’s official news hub documents a 2026 live-service schedule that began with Operation Trauma Front on April 27, 2026, which added a new map and a new Operator. Operation Gray Phantom followed on June 1, 2026 with a new Operator and limited-time modes, and Operation Chain Reaction arrived on June 6, 2026, adding a Ping Wheel, Top 200 Leaderboards, and a Training mode. Operation Silent Descent launched on August 10, 2026 with a new Operator and limited-time modes, and Operation Concrete Impact launched on September 7, 2026, adding Operator Zofia and a new permanent close-quarters combat mode.
The hub also records an official webstore launch on May 6, 2026, which Ubisoft said would offer bonus Platinum on purchases; in-game events including Veil Protocol on June 11, 2026 and Cipher Protocol on August 17, 2026; and a PAYDAY partnership collection announced September 29, 2026, which brought Wamai Chains and Hibana Joy bundles to the in-game shop until October 12, 2026.
In its sunset message, the team said it will share more updates in the coming weeks detailing what players can expect as they prepare for the transition. Rainbow Six Mobile remains available until January 15, 2027.
