The latest entry to the James Cameron phenomenon — Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, will be coming to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 next year. But what do we know about it? Well, you've got us there — seeing as E3 didn't care to give a great deal away over its few minute unveiling. But having said that, Na'vi super fans have been able to construct a well-balanced thread of details to help bridge the gaps of the game, from the plotline to the characters, environment to system settings.

One thing we do know without having to secure any form of supporting evidence is that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is, in fact, canon. Speaking to VentureBeat last week, Disney and Pixar Games Vice President Luigi Priore shed light on the project, claiming the next instalment will feature an entirely new story with new characters to boot. And as for Pandora, well, that's still very much the focal point and central hub of the game. But the title probably gave that one away, to be honest.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – First Look Trailer

Priore spoke to VentureBeat last week about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

“What James Cameron and Jon Landau created is an amazing science fiction world. Pandora is awesome. They have great heroes. It’s a great playground to play in,” Priore told VentureBeat. “This is a brand new story with new characters. It’s going to become part of the canon. The whole idea is to have it be part of the storyline of that giant franchise on Pandora, but it’s not a ‘play the movie' game. It’s an all-new open-world, new characters. That’s why it’s called Frontiers of Pandora. It takes place on another frontier, another area of the moon of Pandora.”

As far as a concrete release date goes, neither Priore nor Ubisoft has conjured anything for the public eye. However, we do know that the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, Stadia and Luna sometime in 2022. Apart from that, all we're left with is a visually stunning trailer, a few patch notes and a general overview of the structure of the game. Let's hope we'll see a little more light shed later this year.
