Square Enix Reveal Big Plans for Final Fantasy

2023 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years for Square Enix's Final Fantasy, with not one, but three new games coming to life over the next twelve months.

If you thought Square Enix was going to be taking a well-deserved hiatus from developing links for the universally acclaimed Final Fantasy franchise this year, then you thought wrong. Turns out, the Japan-based studio won't just be bringing Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Final Fantasy: Pixel Remasters to the table in 2023, but a whole other undisclosed project. And as it happens, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase has already shed some light on the fourth game.

“The development of [Final Fantasy VII Rebirth], which I produce, is also accelerating,” Kitase mentioned on the official site. “In addition to this, we have a big announcement that we can't say yet. 2023 will be a good year for everyone, and I would like to make [Final Fantasy fans] excited.”

Is Square Enix Really Working on a Fourth Final Fantasy Game in 2023?

Of course, this could be something else altogether, and in no way, shape, or form, tied to the world of Final Fantasy. That said, given the fact that Kitase closed the cryptic reveal with wanting to “make Final Fantasy fans excited,” it definitely gives us a vague picture of what could pop up later on in the year. As for what it'll be, though, is anybody's guess, and something that neither you nor I could conjure up until some form of concrete announcement comes to light.

In the meantime, you can check in with Square Enix over on the official social handle here. We'll be sure to drop any updates on the series should they come to the table over the next few weeks.

So, what's your take? Any idea what the fourth Final Fantasy project could be? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
