 on

Slime Rancher 2 has made many improvements over the first iteration of the series. This can be seen through various gameplay elements as well as the quality of life changes. Whether it is something simple or complex and integral to the game, these changes cannot be understated. With that being said, these changes have also improved upon the Slime Rancher formula in many ways. This has made it more accessible to newer players. Below are our picks for 5 things the game does better than the first.

5. Slime Science

Slime Science has improved a ton since the first entry of the series. Serving as the progression system for the player's gadgets and gear, the slime science behind these objects has improved immensely. Whether it is a simple upgrade or something more integral to gameplay, Slime Rancher 2 improves on its predecessor across the board.  Players wishing to upgrade their slime science will need to capture plorts in order to feed them into the machine that gives you your upgrades. This is absolutely essential to being able to progress in the game and have a better experience throughout.

Obtaining the resources for your slime science can be done by drilling, which is available at the beginning of the game. This can be accomplished by running into the basement of the player's ranch and interacting with the Refinery. Players can turn in items they have collected into the refinery, which will allow the player to upgrade their gear and gadgets. It cannot be overstated just how important slime science is to progression in the game. So it is for that reason that it is one of our picks for 5 things the game does better than the first.

4. Introducing New Creatures

There exists a plethora of new creatures in Slime Rancher 2. With an increased slime count as compared to the first game, players will find that there are more slimes to ranch and wrangle and take care of. Ranging in their value and purpose, these new creatures add a much-needed variety to the series. Because what is a game about ranching slimes without unique slimes to add to the ranch? Differing in their adorableness and usefulness to your ranch, these new slimes have a personality all their own.

The new slimes added in Slime Rancher 2 are as follows. Ringtail Slimes, Angler Slimes, Batty Slimes, Flutter Slimes, and Cotton Slimes. Ringtail Slimes will drain your food supply rather quickly as these ravenous creatures will not only eat everything but not give you any plorts for all your efforts. Angler Slimes are rather nocturnal slimes as they have to be in the dark even after you capture them, making them a tad difficult to tend to. As for the other new slimes in the series, they each offer their own pros and cons to capture. All that being said; however, these new creatures add a much-needed variety to Slime Rancher 2.

3. Mining Resources

Mining Resources is an action that is vital to success in Slime Rancher 2. While mining may not have played as important of a role in the first game. Here in the sequel, it is absolutely essential. This is for a myriad of reasons, but one of the main ones is that you need to mine resources to make equipment like the JetPack. Having the Jetpack on you means that you can now traverse the world at a much faster rate. This, in turn, means that you will be able to capture more slimes as well as have an overall better experience because of it.

Mining Resources will be able to help the player turn in ores and things to the refinery, which in turn will allow them to upgrade various tools. Doing so will ensure that players are getting the most out of their time. As well as have an easier time obtaining items that they need. While it is something that most players will do naturally, mining resources in Slime Rancher 2 will certainly help you in your goal to obtain all the slimes.

2. Ranch DesignSlime Rancher 2

The Ranch has a new design, and it has been improved upon in a number of ways. Serving as the player's conservatory for plants and slimes alike, the ranch is a key component of the game. Seeing as the player will be spending the majority of their time there. It should be said that players will need to learn to be comfortable in the conservatory. With a lot of things to offer the player, such as plots to grow food and pins to keep slimes at bay, the ranch is so important to players.

The ranch allows the player to upgrade their garden within its walls. A ranch is a wonderful place for players to learn more about the game. This can be done by simply looking around and observing the sheer amount of systems there are to interact with. Whether it is gathering plorts and turning them in for currency to unlock new areas or visiting the refinery, the ranch is essential. Simply stated, the ranch design serves as an example of one of the new improvements in Slime Rancher 2 as compared to its predecessor. And it is a wonderful environment for the player to enjoy.

1. TutorialSlime Rancher 2

The clarity the player has about the game following the tutorial is a vast improvement over the original Slime Rancher. Serving to set the player up for success early on, the tutorial shows the player the ropes. Doing so will introduce the player to systems and slimes that they will interact with on their journey. As well as show the player what to do. The tutorial is laid out wonderfully and is really easy to follow and understand, even for newer players.

It is for this reason that we believe the tutorial serves as the best improvement over the first Slime Rancher game. As it shows the player what to do in a way that is smart and intuitive and, in many ways, improves on how this was handled in the first game. Making it the best one of the new Improvements in Slime Rancher 2 in Slime Rancher 2.
