Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 Remakes Hit Nintendo Switch 2 This October

Capcom is bringing three Resident Evil remakes to Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher said in a press release dated September 9, 2026 that Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will release for the console starting October 16, 2026, with pre-orders and an early adopter’s discount available now.

The reveal came during the Nintendo Direct presentation held on September 9, 2026. Nintendo’s official recap of the broadcast billed the segment “Relive the Terror,” inviting players to “survive the undead in three Resident Evil titles, coming to Nintendo Switch 2.” Nintendo also scheduled a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | September 2026 broadcast to follow the Direct, featuring gameplay of select titles shown during the presentation.

According to Capcom, each of the three remakes faithfully preserves the essence of its original release while being reimagined with fresh ideas and modernized gameplay built on the company’s RE ENGINE. Capcom said Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition also carry substantial additional content over the original versions.

The Three Remakes

Capcom’s announcement included a story rundown for each game. Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition opens as a biological disaster strikes Raccoon City, pulling in rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, a college student who came to town to visit her brother. Resident Evil 3 unfolds in the ruins of the same city and is told from the perspective of Jill Valentine, a survivor of the special forces unit S.T.A.R.S.; Capcom describes it as the story of the beginning and end of the Raccoon City Incident. Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is set six years after that incident, with Leon, now an agent, sent to locate and rescue the president’s daughter while facing villagers transformed into monstrous cultists.

Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition

Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the 2005 original, reimagined for 2023, according to its official product page. The Gold Edition bundles the base game with the Separate Ways story mode and the Extra DLC Pack. Separate Ways puts players in control of Ada Wong and presents the events of Resident Evil 4 from her perspective, following her mission to retrieve the cult’s darkest secret, the Amber. The Extra DLC Pack contains “Casual” and “Romantic” costume sets for Leon and Ashley, “Hero” and “Villain” costume-and-filter sets for Leon, the Sentinel Nine and Skull Shaker deluxe weapons, a Treasure Map: Expansion, a “Sunglasses (Sporty)” accessory for Leon, and an “Original Ver.” Soundtrack Swap.

The remake retains the original’s third-person camera perspective and adds refined modern controls, knife actions that can parry attacks and finish off fallen foes, and crafting for ammunition and other items. Capcom says the remake has sold over 10 million units worldwide.

Resident Evil on Nintendo Switch 2

Capcom said that with the arrival of the three remakes, all mainline Resident Evil titles, including the recently released Resident Evil Requiem and the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica, will be playable on Nintendo Switch 2. Requiem, the ninth title in the mainline series, is available now on the console.

Capcom’s Switch 2 lineup page also lists Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition as available now, sold individually or as a bundle. The bundle pairs Resident Evil 7 biohazard, with its Banned Footage Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 episodes, the Not A Hero and End of Zoe add-ons, and a Survival Pack, together with Resident Evil Village and its Winters’ Expansion DLC, Street Wolf Outfit, Mr. Raccoon Weapon Charm, Survival Resources Pack, and Trauma Pack DLC. Both games are played from a first-person perspective rendered in Capcom’s RE Engine: Resident Evil 7 biohazard follows Ethan Winters, whose search for his missing wife leads him to a seemingly abandoned Louisiana house, in the events of the Baker Incident Report, while Resident Evil Village is set a few years later, as Ethan and his wife Mia build a new life before tragedy strikes again. Capcom notes that saved data and Cloud Versions that use the Nintendo Switch version’s cloud services cannot be shared or transferred.
