Xbox Series X25: Everything We Know

If you’d still been skeptical about the new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, I bet the latest news from the mega console company will change your mind for the better. Every project she’s spearheaded so far has hit the spot for Xbox fans, including the announcement of the upcoming Xbox Series X25.

Firstly, Xbox Series X25 is a limited edition console that will launch in November 2026, to celebrate Xbox’s 25th Anniversary. It’s a variant of the current-gen Xbox Series X, meaning its software will be the best performing in the modern market. However, the most important thing to note is that its design will take you back to the original Xbox.

Remember that sweet, transparent green casing from the early 2000s? It’s back, both on the console and controller. There are more neat features on the upcoming console added as a tribute to long-time fans that I’ll break down further in my Xbox Series X25: Everything We Know article below.

What is Xbox Series X25?

Xbox Series X25: Everything We Know

It’s not the first time that Xbox honors its fans with a limited-edition console. In March 2004, Xbox launched the Xbox Crystal Edition to celebrate its second anniversary. This was the original limited-edition console variant with a transparent casing through which you can see the inner hardware. And it was a major hit after launch, especially among retro enthusiasts who might keep it as part of their collection or sell the limited edition later at a profit.

In April 2004, the Halo Special Edition came through in Hong Kong, which has the transparent green casing and bundles Halo. And this is the design that the upcoming Xbox Series X25 is borrowing from. The signature translucent green casing of the early 2000s, which will definitely sell nostalgia. But also retro enthusiasts looking to spruce up their showcase collection.

Mind you, the Xbox Series X25 is very similar to the current-gen Xbox Series X. It may very well be the same console, except for the retro look and design. For that reason, perhaps you may be more excited about buying the Xbox Series X25 controller, whose design features also harken back to the original Xbox controller and takes away the need to get an entirely new console.

Features

Xbox Series X25: Everything We Know

The greatest feature of the upcoming Xbox Series X25 is that it’ll have a similar translucent green casing as the original Xbox console. That’s for the console itself as well as the controller. It’s a limited edition console that honors history, combining the early 2000s look and feel of the Xbox console with the modern high-performance and power of the Xbox Series X. More specifically:

  • The Xbox Series X25 console will have a green “see-through” chassis
  • The “X” logo will light up in green like the original Xbox, as opposed to white
  • Meanwhile, the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition will have a translucent “see-through” green casing
  • Its face buttons will have the original ABXY colors
  • The bumpers will have the original black and white buttons as the original “Duke” controller
  • The back case and battery door will be fully transparent and will showcase the classic Xbox logo
  • Apparently, there are more easter eggs and hidden surprises to come

Specifications

Xbox Series X25: Everything We Know

Since the Xbox Series X25 is essentially a variant of the Xbox Series X, you can expect similar hardware and software specifications. Thus, it will have 1 TB of SSD storage, an 8K HDR dynamic range, 4K resolution, and up to 120 FPS, powered by the Xbox Velocity Architecture. These are the best features in the modern market for speedy load times, low latency, fast response time, and steady high framerates. Essentially, visuals that are as bright as on the Xbox Series X/S, along with an optimized gaming experience and spatial sound.

The previous choices for the Xbox Series X have been the carbon black, robot white, and galaxy black variations. But now, console collectors have the option of buying the Xbox Series X25 limited edition. This can come bundled with the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition or separately.

Pricing

Xbox Series X25

While the price of the Xbox Series X25 hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’ll likely be around $750, roughly higher than the Xbox Series X. If you decide to get the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 only, you’re looking at a price of roughly $90. In any case, the limited edition console and controller will likely be a premium buy compared to the standard Xbox Series X.

Development

Collectors and retro enthusiasts must be over the moon by the announcement of the Xbox Series X25. I can only imagine those who own the original Xbox console getting the new one to match the green vibe. It’s definitely worrisome that the variant will be a limited edition. Hopefully, Xbox launches enough consoles and controllers for every fan not to miss out.

Another special treat is that Xbox is offering free wallpapers inspired by 25 years of Xbox. You can download them right away and begin personalizing your gaming experiences.

Trailer

Watching the Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection reveal trailer has been a great dose of nostalgia. Whoever designed the trailer understands Xbox history and how far we’ve come. Right from the original Xbox logo to the Nu Metal music and a bedroom that could very well be your old childhood room. It screams early 2000s vibes all throughout the reveal, adopting the look and feel of the original Xbox ads.

I presume the console will come with pre-bundled games. Perhaps Halo: Campaign Evolved featured in the trailer, Fable, and Gears of War: E-Day, perhaps GTA 6, but we’ll have to wait and see.
