Rockstar Sets Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Load Times by Console
Rockstar Games published its Grand Theft Auto VI pre-load schedule on November 3, 2026, setting different start arrangements for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ahead of the game’s November 19, 2026 launch. Digital pre-loading begins November 10, 2026, while code-in-box retail availability, a device-dependent storage requirement, and automatic-download settings add separate steps to release preparation.
Pre-Load Times Differ by Platform
On PlayStation 5, digital pre-loading starts at midnight local time in each player’s respective time zone. Xbox Series X|S instead has one global start at 12 a.m. GMT. Both schedules apply to November 10, but the reference points are not interchangeable: PS5 owners can plan around midnight where they live, while Xbox players need to check the single GMT start against their own time zone.
Pre-orders remain available ahead of launch. Rockstar’s retail guidance is that code-in-box versions for both console families should be available from retailers beginning November 12, 2026. That gives players following the boxed-code option a separate retail date between the start of digital pre-loading and the game’s release.
Storage and Automatic-Download Settings
The pre-load file requires up to 212 GB of available space, depending on the device. Rockstar therefore is not assigning one identical file size to every console; it is providing a maximum figure that players can use when checking storage. Its practical guidance is to confirm sufficient free storage before attempting the download.
Automatic pre-loading has additional requirements beyond storage. The Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Load FAQ, last updated November 3, explains the setup by platform. On PlayStation 5, auto-downloads must be enabled and the console must be powered on or in Rest Mode. Those are two distinct conditions: an auto-download setting and an eligible console power state.
Xbox Series X|S uses different labels for the equivalent setup. Automatic updates must be enabled, and the console must be powered on or in Sleep mode. The start time alone therefore does not complete automatic-pre-load preparation on either platform; players also need the correct download or update setting and one of Rockstar’s listed power states.
Rockstar’s FAQ also directs players to platform-holder instructions for the pre-load process itself. Its PlayStation links cover automatic downloads for pre-ordered games and troubleshooting downloaded games. The Xbox links cover pre-orders, automatic updates, power modes, and game or app installation problems, providing separate setup and troubleshooting routes for each console family.
Poster and Map Planned for Launch
The launch date brings an extra beyond the game download. On November 19, Rockstar will add an official printable Grand Theft Auto VI cover-art poster and map of Leonida to the official site as a free digital download. A double-sided physical version will be available shortly after launch from the Rockstar Store. It will cost $0.99 on its own or be included as a free gift with any Rockstar Store purchase.
For players, preparation now depends on platform. PS5 timing follows each player’s time zone, Xbox timing follows a single GMT reference, and automatic downloads depend on console settings and power states. Confirming sufficient space and those conditions before the relevant window opens allows a console to receive the file ahead of launch instead of starting the download on release day.
