Netflix Cancels Resident Evil After One Season

Netflix has pulled the plug on Resident Evil after just one season due to overwhelmingly negative reviews.

Netflix, a streaming platform known for squeezing TV adaptations out of popular video game franchises, has officially given Resident Evil the boot after just eight episodes. Thanks to the season harboring some of the worst reviews ever seen on the site, the streaming giant has decided to axe the hopes of ever reviving it for a second run. This decision comes after fans slated the season for being “one of the worst Netflix Originals ever made.”

Resident Evil follows two timelines, both revolving around New Raccoon City and the beginnings of a second local outbreak. In an alternate reality, Wesker and his two daughters, Jade and Billie, move to the new city in the hopes of starting a better life, only to realize that Umbrella is on the verge of releasing a second virus that has the power to destroy the world. Again.

The premise behind Resident Evil wasn't what killed the show; it was the lack of direction and poor writing. Lumbered with some rather questionable acting and a yawn-inducing choice of pace, the eight episodes it showcased wound up becoming an all-round stain on an otherwise epic franchise. It was inexcusably dull and repetitive, and it failed to draw the interest of the millions of people that tuned in to see what should've been an action-heavy expedition.

While this comes as no surprise to most, others will argue that the series had the potential to become something much greater. Turns out, though, that we'll never see what could've been, after all. Resident Evil, like its inhabitants, is physically, emotionally, and virtually dead and buried.
