The best moments in Resident Evil Requiem evoke strong emotions within you so that they cling to memory years down the line. Scenes like Grace witnessing her mother die, and the impact that traumatic experience leaves on her. Some of the best moments are ecstatic, like Leon being a badass in the executions and headshots he takes with the Requiem pistol. But perhaps the stand-out bits are the fear-inducing moments of terror, when Grace is running for her life or when the creepy and unsettling atmosphere Resident Evil Requiem has mastered so well weighs heavily on you.

10. It’s Too Much

Resident Evil Requiem introduces us to a new character, Grace Ashcroft. She’s an intelligence analyst at the FBI and the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Right at the start of the game, we see Grace witness her mother die in a most gruesome way. A machete is driven through her neck. Eight years later, Grace still suffers from the traumatic experience. It’s the foundation that sets the tone for the rest of the game. 

Fear, panic, and survival built on the foundation of a painful memory. It only gets worse for Grace when she faces zombies and grotesque monsters. She is a nervous wreck during these encounters that make her so relatable, with impeccable acting when she frightfully wields guns and tumbles as she tries to run away. “It’s too much,” Grace says, and you believe it all to be overwhelming for her.

9. Haven’t Changed Much, Have You?

Along with the new is the old. The homage that Resident Evil Requiem pays to previous entries in the series. My best moment is returning to Raccoon City and drowning in the nostalgia of what is familiar. “Haven’t changed much, have you?” Leon says after putting down a zombie, and I felt it. You gotta miss that Raccoon City hospitality. 

But the monsters crawling the streets aren’t the only familiars. Despite the t-virus epidemic and the missile that destroyed Raccoon City, most of the landmarks remain standing. The Raccoon City Police Department is as it was, although abandoned and crumbling down. It’s pretty emotional seeing how the virus has impacted the city and what it once was.

8. One Shot Through the Head

In the moment-to-moment gameplay, you gotta love the Requiem pistol. I love that it takes after the name of the game, Resident Evil Requiem, and lives up to the honor. One shot through the head is enough to take down a zombie, and it sure as hell feels too good. The weight of each shot, how deliberate you have to be, because despite its power, you only have a few bullets before you need to reload.

7. Parry Right Back at You

Combine the Requiem with Leon’s parry, and you now get to the heart-pumping action of the best moments in Resident Evil Requiem. That parry is a life-saver, practically a comeback for almost every attack. You can parry enemies who grab you. Or those who throw stuff at you. The list is endless for projectiles, from bottles to missiles, rockets, and cars. I’m sure you’ll find fun ways to use the parry, especially against spiders and plants, which attack you with tentacles and shit.

6. Meeting the Giant Girl

Monster reveals have always been some of the most unforgettable moments in gaming. And in Resident Evil Requiem, there are a few zombies who’ll stick to your brain. The giant girl, though, left a scar. It’s how gigantic she is, far more than she was in the trailers. And how relentless she is in stalking you. Her weakness is light, but it’s easier said than done to always stay in the light in a game as shadowy and dark as Resident Evil Requiem. 

5. Creak in Every Step

The way that Resident Evil Requiem manages to keep you on edge is in the design of its claustrophobic walls and shadowy pathways. The levels can be pretty compact with winding corridors, which makes it pretty disorienting when running away from a chunky beast. But it’s the atmosphere that steals the show.

How stuffy it feels based purely on the hazy rooms. The way the lights dim frustratingly during a chase. When in the darkness, the silhouette of a creepy monster appears, and you immediately make a break for it. And then the sound seals the deal, from the creaks in every step to Grace’s gasps and ragged breathing.

4. Annoying Blister Heads

You think the zombies are your worst nightmare, and then you meet the blister heads, who move much faster and are more vicious. One strike is enough to kill you. I admit, they can be pretty annoying. But hey, in my book, the best moments in Resident Evil Requiem evoke strong emotions in you. If I’m cursing a lot when fighting these agile beasts with tumors on their heads, I’m going to give it credit where it’s due.

3. Blood and Gore

And then you meet the Blister Borne boss, whose weak spots are the numerous blisters on his disgusting body that you have to shoot and watch it explode into blood and gore. The executions are a gory affair, having Leon explode zombies’ heads to bits. Or when Gideon explodes into puddles of blood. Or in the blood processing scene with the massive zombie meat grinder. The list of gory affairs is endless, which make up some of the best moments in Resident Evil Requiem.

2. Protecting Emily

The relationship between Grace and Emily is one of the most emotional moments in Resident Evil Requiem. The way Grace wants to protect Emily, freeing her and growing to want to protect her. Despite how scared Grace is, she has to be brave and make sure Emily is safe. It’s so easy between them, despite not knowing each other. How easily they bond and care for each other. And Emily’s fate is so heartbreaking that I bawled my eyes out. 

1. Zombies Can Be Funny

Enough with fear, panic, and heartbreak. Resident Evil Requiem also has its hilarious moments. I especially laughed out loud at some of the zombie lines when they are caught in a loop of whatever they were doing before they turned. The zombies in Requiem retain their personalities, which is a pretty grand addition to the series, and while some have heartbreaking pasts, others are downright funny.
