Minecraft Gets a Native Nintendo Switch 2 Version With Vibrant Visuals
Minecraft is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 as a native version on October 27, 2026, with the game’s Vibrant Visuals graphics overhaul enabled as the default look, Nintendo announced. Players who own Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch will be able to upgrade to the new version digitally.
Mojang first detailed the native version on June 9, 2026, describing it as “optimized to take advantage of the console’s more powerful hardware.” The studio also confirmed that Vibrant Visuals, the update it released in June 2025 alongside the Chase the Skies update and calls Minecraft’s biggest visual graphics update to date, ships as the default graphics setting on the new console.
The launch also brings an update to the Super Mario Mash-Up pack, rebuilt around the Vibrant Visuals graphics. The pack is exclusive to Nintendo versions of the game, skins Minecraft’s world in Super Mario textures and music, and adds locations such as Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza.
Minecraft’s road to Switch 2
Vibrant Visuals has been rolling out in stages since its June 2025 debut, reaching Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on consoles, PC, and mobile devices first. Mojang confirmed the native Switch 2 version and the Super Mario Mash-Up update on June 9, 2026, and Nintendo’s announcement set the release date.
The Switch 2 version lands while Mojang is promoting the franchise’s wider slate, with pre-orders for Minecraft Dungeons II featured across the studio’s site. Gaming.net has tracked that spin-off in everything we know about Minecraft Dungeons II and ranked every Minecraft game released to date.
What Vibrant Visuals changes in Minecraft
Vibrant Visuals is a cosmetic overhaul built on a new graphics pipeline, per Mojang’s documentation: directional lighting that moves shadows as the sun crosses the sky, volumetric fog, water that reflects and carries light across lakebeds, and clouds that stretch into the distance. Updated textures govern how different light sources interact with blocks, while pixelated shadows keep the game’s blocky style intact. Marketplace items that support it carry a “Vibrant Visuals Enhanced” tag.
Because the overhaul is cosmetic, it does not touch gameplay. Existing worlds work with it enabled, and Realms sessions run whether or not every player in them has it turned on. Players who prefer framerate over fidelity can pick a “Favor Performance” preset in the video settings, or change the graphics mode entirely.
On current hardware, Vibrant Visuals runs only on Bedrock Edition: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC running DX12, and Android and iOS devices above set chip thresholds. Mojang says a Java Edition version is planned for the future.
The fine print on Minecraft’s Switch 2 version
Nintendo’s announcement footnotes two limits on the new version. Vibrant Visuals will not apply in split-screen play or with certain Marketplace worlds and content, and Mojang’s own documentation notes the game falls back to its Fancy or Simple rendering when local multiplayer joins. A separate note on Mojang’s announcement states that console multiplayer requires a platform-specific online subscription, sold separately.
Nintendo also says a digital upgrade path will be available for Switch owners moving to the new version, with more details to follow.
When the native version arrives on October 27, 2026, Vibrant Visuals will be the default setting, and anyone who prefers the classic look can switch back through the graphics-mode dropdown in the video settings.
