Gotham Knights Leak Hints at Four Play Co-Op

Updated on

Gotham Knights, the highly anticipated RPG super-hero game from WB Games Montreal, just had a big leak. As it stands currently, the game said it will have four main characters to play as. Those are Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin. However, despite having four main characters, the game only supports up to two-player co-op. This is a decision fans aren't too stoked about and their voice may have been heard by the devs.

A post by a Reddit user on r/GothamKnights spotted a notable change from the freshly updated PlayStation Store. The Gotham Knights page clearly shows “4 network players”, as opposed to before, which had it at only two. This could be the dev's adjusting the game to allow four-player co-op in light of the outcries heard from fans.

Game Just Updated On The PSN Store. Seems 4 Player CO-OP Will Be Available! (Hopefully It's True. I Had It On My Bingo Card Aswell As The Crossplay) from GothamKnights

It's worth noting that the game's description still states, “Patrol Gotham’s five distinct boroughs in solo-play or with one other hero and drop in on criminal activity wherever you find it.”. Director Patrick Redding previously explained why the studio feels this decision is best.

“You can have four-player brawler experiences, I think the more you try to lean into that, the more you end up having to create environments that only really work for that,” said Redding. He further went on to explain that it also doesn't follow the fantasy and origin of the Batman family, which typically sees the heroes as solo fighters, who cross paths and join forces to take down a combined foe.

Despite these notions that the game is only supporting two-player co-op, it's hard to argue that the game can't easily adapt to a model that supports up to four players. Especially with the dev's delaying the game to 2022, for “more time to deliver the best possible experience for players”. Well, a four-player model would undoubtedly provide a better experience. And this leak may be hinting that the developers are incorporating this important component into the game, not to mention how bad the community wants it.
