Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit - everything we know

Can you believe that it’s been nearly 10 years since the first game in the Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF) franchise graced our small screens? To celebrate how far the series has come, Mega Cat Studios, with the blessing of the franchise’s creator, Scott Cawthon, is prepping to launch Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit. If the name sounds familiar, well that’s probably because the upcoming game will be an adaptation of the first story in the Five Nights at Freddy’s: Fazbear Frights book series.

Into the Pit will be the first game in the FNaF video game series to dabble its feet in book adaptations, which is perfectly fitting given the upcoming game’s launch will be in celebration of the upcoming FNaF 10th Anniversary in August 2024. With the release window on the horizon, we’ve gathered all we can find about Into the Pit. Check out everything we know so far about Into the Pit down below.

What is Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit?

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is an upcoming 2D survival-horror adventure game. It’s based on the first story in the Fazbear Frights book series by the same name. In the story, a boy uncovers a time-traveling ball pit in an abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. From the trailer and the story description via Steam, the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit will tell a similar story. Now, whether you’ll point-and-click through the adventure or use side-scrolling to advance the story remains tightly sealed in a closed jar.

Furthermore, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit will, as far as we can tell, be a mainline entry in the FNaF video game series. However, while previous games have taken a first-person perspective in storytelling and gameplay, Into the Pit will shift to the classic side-scrolling format. No worries there as the trailer portrays commendable expertise in delivering the same, creepy adventure we’ve come to love, thanks to Mega Cat Studios' experience developing games like WrestleQuest. Into the Pit will be yet another addition to the ever-growing FNaF franchise, which spans several mainline games, spin-offs, books, a movie, and even a graphic novel series.

Story

As usual, Into the Pit will task players with surviving through five nights at the creepy Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. However, Into the Pit will introduce a twist to storytelling and gameplay. Players will discover a time-traveling portal in a ball pit at the abandoned pizzeria. It’ll allow you to time travel between different periods of the Pizzeria’s existence.

As Into the Pit’s story description via Steam highlights, Oswald, a young boy, feels his town is boring. However, as he explores the ball pit at a derelict Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, he discovers a ball pit that changes his life. He finds himself in different periods when the pizzeria’s killer animatronics run amok during the night.

But there’s another twist. Oswald will not only strive to survive fight nights at the haunted pizzeria but also look out for others. Oswald’s father and children from the past are also in danger. It’ll be up to you to save them all.

Gameplay

As always, Into the Pit will take after previous FNaF gameplay systems. It’ll task you with solving puzzles, gathering clues, and outrunning the killer animatronics chasing after you in the night. Relentless in their pursuit, you’ll explore clever ways to survive through five nights of terror. You’ll run as fast as you can, but if the animatronics remain hot on your tail, you may be forced to hide.

With other survivors who you need to save, Into the Pit’s gameplay is likely to be trickier. Still, traveling between time periods will doubtlessly spice up your gameplay. Check out the key features Into the Pit plans to incorporate in the final game below.

  • A“heart-pounding adventure,” akin to the FNaF franchise
  • Rewarding puzzles infused with an “adrenaline-fueled story”
  • An immersive narrative playthrough
  • Discover secrets that span decades
  • Multiple endings
  • Escape killer animatronics chasing after you across time
  • Unlike previous iterations, you’ll not only save yourself but also friends and family

Development

Mega Cat Studios is currently working on developing and publishing Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit. Earlier this year, the trailer for the upcoming game leaked, sending the masses into a wild frenzy. Thereafter, FNaF creator, Scott Cawthon, set fans' minds at ease, confirming that Into the Pit is indeed in development.

In fact, he says that development on the project has been ongoing for a really long time. He goes on to add that Into the Pit will launch in celebration of FNaF's 10th Anniversary, which marks the release window for sometime in August 2024. During the Guerrilla Collective Showcase 2024, Into the Pit’s official trailer finally graced the gaming stage.

Furthermore, it sets the minds of fans who were skeptical about the shift to 2D at ease. Into the Pit sure does look fantastic and launch day can’t come any sooner.

Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Unfortunately, we don’t have official confirmation of an actual release date. However, Scott Cawthon has confirmed that Into the Pit will be released in celebration of FNaF’s 10th Anniversary. It means there’s a very high chance Into the Pit’s launch will coincide with the anniversary date of the first game in the series, which launched on August 8, 2014.

While we wait for confirmation on the release date, we can confirm that Into the Pit will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms via Steam. Editions remain under wraps for now. Be sure to keep an eye out for new information right here on gaming.net, where we’ll be posting any updates as soon as they come up.
