EA Restores Seven PC Classics in 25-Game Catalogue Launch
Electronic Arts released 25 classic PC games on November 5, 2026, including seven restored Anniversary Editions and 18 other catalogue titles across Steam, GOG and the EA app. The EA-presented Steam event spans Road Rash, Wing Commander, Ultima, Crusader, Strike Commander and Theme Hospital, but the restoration work varies considerably between the upgraded editions and the wider reissue.
The Anniversary group consists of Road Rash, Wing Commander, Wing Commander II, III and IV, Prophecy and Privateer 2: The Darkening. The remaining releases comprise 11 Ultima games, Theme Hospital, Crusader: No Remorse and No Regret, Strike Commander, and Wing Commander: Privateer, Academy and Armada.
On Steam, Anniversary Editions cost $4.99 after a 50% launch discount, while the other classics are $2.49, also 50% off. The nine-game Wing Commander bundle is $33.66 and the 11-game Ultima bundle is $24.64, with both marked 55% off. Steam lists the offers as ending November 19, 2026.
Road Rash’s Restored Music and Video
EA describes Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition as the first digital release of the 1996 PC version. Its soundtrack has been relicensed, allowing songs by Soundgarden, Paw, Hammerbox, Monster Magnet, Swervedriver and Therapy? to play during races. The restoration also draws on source-master tapes found in EA’s physical-media vault in 2022, which were digitized and re-edited frame by frame to restore dozens of full-motion-video scenes.
Modern-system additions include gameplay at up to 60 frames per second, native controller support, windowed mode and cloud saves. On GOG, the Windows edition is DRM-free and needs neither activation nor an online connection to play. A fully offline installer is available without requiring GOG Galaxy.
Community Patches in the First Wing Commander Games
The first two Wing Commander editions were restored with the series’ community and integrate their Kilrathi Saga versions, which EA says are receiving their first digital releases. Kilrathi Saga supplies digital music and sound, a re-orchestrated soundtrack and optional drop-away cockpit support. The community-built Wcdx patch covers speed fixes, improved controller support and windowed mode; Wing Commander also gains planetary space backgrounds, while Wing Commander II includes cinematic-speed fixes.
For the DOS versions, the community WCAT patch recreates the gameplay and audio feel of a 386 PC and improves controls, with asteroid adjustments in the first game and a difficulty choice in the second. Both editions include manuals, reference cards, ship blueprints and cloud saves, packaging supporting material alongside the compatibility work.
Recovered Cinematics in the Later Editions
EA says source tapes found in its vault in 2022 enabled frame-by-frame restoration of more than 900 FMV scenes in Wing Commander III, more than 275 in Wing Commander IV and more than 150 in Prophecy. Prophecy also includes its Secret Ops episodes.
Wing Commander III’s community patch adds 60-frame-per-second gameplay, higher-resolution FMVs, widescreen cockpit configuration, improved controller and joystick support, and reintegrated News Reels, Hobbes and Planets scenes. The edition includes full voice-over and subtitles in English, French and German.
Privateer 2: The Darkening follows a separate recovery path. Its original cinematics director found the complete source-master tapes in 2024; EA says this supported restoration of more than 100 scenes, while the director also produced an alternate Director’s Cut with fresh color correction and editing. Its community patch improves framerates, video resolution and controller support, while FMV subtitles cover English, French, German and Spanish.
Optional AI upscaling is disclosed for Road Rash, Wing Commander III and IV, Prophecy and Privateer 2, specifically for the resolution and framerate of existing master video. That disclosed role concerns optional enhancement of the recovered cinematics, alongside the separate community and compatibility work.
The broader catalogue expands access, while the Anniversary Editions carry the preservation substance: recovered footage, relicensed audio and community-built fixes are part of the commercial releases. For the cinematic Wing Commander games and Privateer 2, that makes archival recovery and community-developed technical work central to the editions players can purchase, giving the launch a practical preservation role alongside its sales promotion.
