Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Japan’s Best-Selling Switch Game
Although Nintendo has stopped pouring updates into its well-loved Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch phenomenon, the gaming giant hasn’t exactly held back on singing its praises after breaking a new milestone.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has officially made it to Japan’s best-selling Switch game of all time platform. Announced earlier today within the Financial Results Explanatory Material 3rd Quarter of Fiscal Year Ending March 2022 report, Nintendo hoisted the island colors and celebrated the new milestone.
“Incidentally, total sell-through for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has exceeded 10 million units in Japan alone, far surpassing the record 6.81 million units of 1985’s Super Mario Bros, and it is the single best-selling video game ever in Japan.”
As a result of the newfound glory, New Horizons now sits just above 1985’s Super Mario Bros., as mentioned above. To some, that means very little. But for most, it’s an achievement unlike anything else. And to be fair, it was only natural for Animal Crossing to go and crush it, of course.

Well, we saw that one coming…
Of course, it comes as no surprise to most. Animal Crossing, being one of the most influential handheld series of a generation, was really only destined to claim a spot among the highest peaks in gaming from the get-go. New Horizons, well, let’s just say, with well over 37 million copies shipped worldwide, it’s a throne well-deserved.
Unfortunately, even with the new milestone engraved under its belt, the future of the franchise still remains uncertain. With little to no updates left to roll out to New Horizons, it has left players to wonder what will come next. Whatever the case, the next Nintendo Direct is sure to answer a few burning questions.
