The Quarry Adds Death Rewind Feature for NG+

Updated on

Supermassive Games, a firm best known for The Dark Pictures Anthology, has teased a new feature that will change the way The Quarry plays.

It's fair to say that Supermassive Games is big on making replayable video games. Though, the upcoming survival horror game, The Quarry, will look to divert the course, giving players a little extra leeway to aim for a perfect run without any tedious fallbacks.

The feature, known as Death Rewind, will give players three chances to turn back time to crucial moments in the story. What this means is that, if a character dies, the Death Rewind perk will allow for you to make amends by rewinding time to a key point.

The one major downside to this, however, is that you'll have to play through the game at least once. After experiencing the narrative from beginning to end, you'll have the opportunity to play with the new feature in a New Game+ mode. That, or you can purchase it as part of the Deluxe Edition, which technically gives it out as a day-one exclusive.

How does it work?

“You're essentially granted three ‘lives' that enable you to avoid a character death at the cost of using one of the lives,” game director Will Byles said during an interview with SegmentNext. “You'll be taken back to the moment you made a critical choice that results in the character's death so that you can make a different choice.”

This is, of course, a first for Supermassive Games, as past works have often relied on multiple playthroughs to tell the entire story. But with this new quirk, players will be able to strive for a better conclusion without having to replay the whole plotline from scratch. A curse, or a luxury? You decide.
