Sega Sammy Profit Jumps as Pachislot Offsets Entertainment Decline
Sega Sammy Holdings reported a 298.6% jump in half-year profit attributable to owners of the parent to ¥10.9 billion in its results published November 6, 2026, as sharply higher Pachislot & Pachinko Machines earnings offset a decline at Entertainment Contents. Net sales rose 5.7% to ¥212.6 billion for the six months ended September 30, 2026.
Operating income increased 42.2% to ¥14.3 billion. The far larger rise in parent profit came as extraordinary losses fell to ¥0.7 billion from ¥4.5 billion. The earlier period included ¥2.4 billion of impairment losses and ¥1.6 billion of business-restructuring losses; the latest half recorded ¥0.2 billion of impairments and no business-restructuring loss.
Pachislot Becomes the Larger Earnings Contributor
Pachislot & Pachinko Machines total net sales rose 17.1% to ¥49.1 billion and ordinary income jumped 331.6% to ¥15.4 billion, ahead of Entertainment Contents’ ¥10.0 billion. Pachislot sales rose to ¥32.8 billion from ¥16.0 billion, while unit sales climbed to 65,208 from 28,676. Smart Pachislot Lycoris Recoil accounted for 34,700 units, and Sega Sammy said its sales exceeded plan.
Entertainment Contents moved in the opposite direction. Total net sales slipped 2.5% to ¥145.5 billion and ordinary income fell 35.7%. Full Game sales dropped to ¥20.5 billion from ¥26.8 billion as new-title revenue fell to ¥0.3 billion from ¥8.7 billion; new-title unit sales fell to 80,000 from 1.81 million. Catalogue revenue, covering titles released in the previous fiscal year or earlier, rose to ¥20.2 billion from ¥18.0 billion, leaving those games to carry the category during a period with little new-title contribution.
The amusement-machine and toy division, AM&TOY, partly cushioned that decline, lifting sales to ¥42.8 billion from ¥34.0 billion and operating income to ¥4.8 billion from ¥1.6 billion. Sega Sammy said amusement-machine sales exceeded expectations, led by UFO CATCHER 10.
Acquisitions Lift Gaming Sales but Widen Its Loss
Gaming sales rose 91.1% to ¥16.4 billion, but the segment’s ordinary loss widened to ¥4.2 billion from ¥0.7 billion. Including acquired GAN and Stakelogic produced higher sales and a wider operating loss. The existing gaming-machine business improved, with sales rising to ¥4.1 billion from ¥2.9 billion and operating income to ¥1.4 billion from ¥0.4 billion, supported by series including Railroad RICHES and Super Burst.
Sega Sammy said PARADISE CITY’s casino drop, or chip purchases, reached a quarterly record in the second quarter, but equity-method earnings from PARADISE SEGASAMMY fell to ¥0.4 billion from ¥2.1 billion, partly because of higher expenses for its newly opened hotel.
GAN’s turnaround includes migration to a new platform and fixed-cost reductions, while Stakelogic is narrowing its lineup and porting established gaming-machine IP online. Sega Sammy is targeting profit improvement from the fiscal year ending March 2028 onward.
Full-Year Plan Depends on Second-Half Releases
The company kept its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027 unchanged from May 12, 2026: net sales of ¥510 billion, up 4.6%; operating income of ¥44.5 billion, down 5.6%; and profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥32.5 billion. Its Entertainment Contents plan calls for ¥42.5 billion of operating income after ¥9.3 billion in the first half, while new Full Game title sales are forecast at ¥55.6 billion after just ¥0.3 billion in the half.
That puts considerable weight on Football Manager 27, scheduled for November 10, 2026, STRANGER THAN HEAVEN on January 15, 2027, and Persona 4 Revival on February 18, 2027. Consolidated R&D and content-production spending rose to ¥43.6 billion from ¥40.2 billion, including ¥33.2 billion in Entertainment Contents against ¥31.2 billion; Sega Sammy attributed the increase to basic research expenses for new consumer titles.
The half therefore pairs a sharp profit increase with a demanding second half: pachislot and catalogue games carried the period, Gaming’s acquisitions remain in turnaround, and the unchanged annual Entertainment plan now depends heavily on the scheduled new releases.
