Minecraft Legends

More is more in Minecraft. It's almost impossible to stay idle on there, whether you're crafting, exploring, or fighting. But if you thought that the end was nigh for Minecraft, you'd be wrong. A brand-new action strategy game is in the works, and from the first impressions, it appears to be more promising than ever.

If you haven’t played Minecraft, ever, Minecraft Legends may be a good entry point to find out what all the fuss is about. Particularly because it’ll be a first try at a new genre. Are you curious about the new game's release date, gameplay, story, and platforms? Well, make sure to stick around till the end of this Minecraft Legends: Everything We Know article to find out.

What is Minecraft Legends?

Minecraft Legends

Minecraft Legends is a brand-new upcoming action strategy Minecraft spin-off game currently in the works by developer Mojang in collaboration with Blackbird Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios. Just when you thought the world has had enough of Minecraft, boom! comes another interesting premise of a game I can’t wait to explore.

Story

In Microsoft Legends, the overworld is under attack. The player will take on the role of a legendary hero. He’s one of the few to see reason at a time when piglin mobs have invaded the Overworld. Unlike previous Minecraft games, the Piglin takes center stage in the story as the main antagonist of the game. Consequently, the hero rallies a group of both old and new mobs to strategize together and help bring the Piglin bases to justice.

It’s surprising that all other mobs are non-hostile and you’re free to befriend them and ask them for help. This creates a cool, standalone story in which, for the first time in Minecraft, the rest of the Overworld unites against the ravenous Piglins' invasion.

Some of the mobs you’ll need to team up with are called hosts. They include Foresight, Action, and Knowledge. While they seem pretty crucial, they might also be less problematic.

Other mobs like the Zombies, Regal Tigers, Golem, and Skeletons may require more strategic thinking. Each mob has its own unique abilities, which you’ll no doubt need to keep in mind and utilize in battle.

For instance, it’s interesting how Skeletons wear hats so they don’t burst into flame in the sunlight. Different Golem classes also provide unique perks. Like Mossy Golems provide healing abilities. Grindstone Golems are great for defense, and so on.

Gameplay

The gameplay for the new game sounds simple enough. Start to explore the world around you. Rally the most unlikely people to fight alongside you and build an army. With their help, put on the shoes of a legendary hero and defeat the Piglin hoards attacking the Overworld.

Simple, right? No. Wrong. The two most crucial elements you need are combat skills and strategic thinking. On the combat end, you’ll take on the role of a hero capable of sprinting through the world, swinging your sword at your opponents, and taking them down.

Real-time strategy, however, requires more deliberate thought as you build your battle defenses with the most unlikely of allies. Some of these “allies” are mobs you’re hoping will help you on your quest. As a leader and hero, it’s up to you to utilize their strengths to your advantage. Combine combat and strategy, and you have a chance at defeating the Piglin hoards.

Regarding gameplay modes, Minecraft Legends will have both online PvP and co-op modes. So you can bring a friend or two along to play the game together or go head-to-head with one another. There’s also a multiplayer campaign mode that will no doubt bring additional gaming content to fill in hours upon hours of gameplay.

Overall, Minecraft Legends looks like it’ll demand more active gameplay compared to the chill open-world building from previous games. It may not reach the levels of Clash of Clans, though who knows? What’s definite is you’ll need to put up defenses to protect Overworld as best as possible from the impending threat seeking to destroy it.

Development

Mojang has been creating Minecraft games for a long time. This time will be no different. The studio will also work with the developer Blackbird Interactive and Xbox Game Studios.

So far, Blackbird Interactive has created worthwhile games like Homeworld and Hardspace: Shipbreaker, so the new game will likely be of the same caliber. Plus, they were also in charge of a short-lived AR game called Minecraft Earth.

Minecraft Legends – Announce Trailer

While there has not been much early release footage to go by, the Minecraft Live 2022 expo did let the cat out of the bag on most of the questions fans couldn’t stop wondering about.

The first looks reveal story cutscenes that suggest a focus on an engaging plot. It also reveals snippets of the gameplay, the building mechanics, and action specifics like riding a mount and rallying troops with a flag in hand.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

At the moment, there is yet to be a confirmed actual release date. However, the earliest release window players can expect to get their hands on Minecraft Legends is sometime in Spring 2023.

Lucky for gamers, Minecraft Legends will release on almost all gaming consoles available. These include PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo Switch.

Since it’s a first-party Xbox Game Studios title, the game will be available via PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The cloud gaming option means you can play the game on any device through the cloud. Also, PC gamers can access the game via Steam.

Players need not worry about cross-platform compatibility since the game will likely allow you to link it to your Minecraft account. So, you’ll be able to play with one another across different platforms. You can also pick up the game on another platform where you left off.
