Celebrating 15 Years of Grand Theft Auto IV

Published

 on

Grand Theft Auto IV has just celebrated its fifteenth anniversary, which means, with a little luck, Rockstar Games could technically reveal a remaster for modern hardware.

Rockstar, being one of the modern messiahs of action-adventure IPs, has a treasure trove of such games that yearn to be revived. And honestly, we'd be lying if we said a remastered version of 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV wasn't at the top of our wishlists.

Of course, it goes without saying that Grand Theft Auto 6, being not only the next chapter in Rockstar Games' pipeline, but also one of the most anticipated games of all time, a remaster of an entry that launched well over a decade ago probably isn't one of the team's highest priorities. But that isn't to say it won't come; Grand Theft Auto V was released several times, and on a multitude of platforms to boot. So, it certainly isn't an impossible task, either.

Will There Be a Grand Theft Auto IV Remaster?

Much to our surprise though, and in spite of the game's global success, nothing has come to fruition. And you know what? We have Grove Street Games—creators of the poorly received Grand Theft Auto Trilogy—to blame. It's partly due to the recently repackaged trilogy's countless post-launch issues that Rockstar Games, as much as it probably would have liked to, lost faith in developing potential remasters.

A year or so has passed since the trilogy dropped, and to say Rockstar Games' faith in the concept of remastering old games is at an all-time low would probably be an understatement. Fact is, we're no closer to seeing a Grand Theft Auto IV port for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Who knows though? Perhaps the fifteenth anniversary will revive a spark, after all?

Whatever the case, you can check in with the guys over at Rockstar for all the latest updates here. If, by some miracle, a remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV does come to pass, then we'll be sure to let you know all the details right here on gaming.net.

So, what's your take? Do you think we'll be getting a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto IV ahead of its next anniversary? Let us know your thoughts over on our socials here.
